The Piedmont Master Gardeners, who run the amazing garden program for our Geckos, are doing a big clean-up on Saturday, September 12. It’s time to get ready for fall! The gardeners will be at Greer 9:00-12:00 and would love some volunteer assistance. No need to stay the whole time, and families are also welcome to stop by and tour the garden! I hear there may even be some late summer harvest to take home…

It’s a big week at Greer - back to school night (free 🍕!), the first school-wide morning meeting, and our first PTA meeting of the year!

See below for important information about the ACPS school board vacancy and opportunities to give your feedback about candidates to the current board members!

The six seated ACPS School Board members will soon choose the seventh member. And the School Board is who selects the new ACPS superintendent. There are 22 candidates; there is no public vote.

The board also sets policy and school boundaries, decides who is zoned where, approves the division’s budget request, and employs principals and teachers on the superintendent’s recommendation.

The three dates to know:

Sept. 10, 6:30 p.m.: Candidate interviews at Lane Auditorium. Open to the public.

Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m.: Public hearing. This is your chance to speak.

Sept. 24, 6:30 p.m.: The board votes.

Dirty soda (and seltzer!) bar to celebrate our Greer teachers and staff making it through the first full week of school! One of the best parts of volunteering at school is getting a peek into how much care goes into shepherding our Geckos throughout the day - staff greeting students from all grade levels by name, a teacher sitting and comforting a student who has an ice pack on their knee, and Mr. Timmy, one minute driving a floor buffer like a boss, the next helping some of our newest Geckos find their way down the hall.
