A leadership program for residential students at the University of Virginia.
Run collaboratively by Housing & Residence Life and the UVA Alumni Association, RLE allows students to develop a well-rounded set of practical leadership skills, interact with faculty and staff from across grounds, and work with motivated student leaders dedicated to serving the needs of their class by getting involved in two different leadership organizations: Association Councils and the First-Year Council!

Meet Sammy Finnegan (she/her)!
Association: Echols-Humphreys
Position: ASCO Secretary
Term: 2020-2021
Sammy is currently one of the Co-Chairs for Housing and Residence Life, but her journey in student leadership started in RLE. Sammy joined AsCo because she wanted to create community and make sure that everyone felt like they had a place to call home in a time when students were so restricted in their social interactions. Because of her AsCo’s initiatives, residents in her building had the chance to socially engage and get to know one another, and we were able to make the best of a very lonely year.
Her advice to the class of 2028? Join RLE if you want to meet a lot of people and gain some great event-planning skills!

One of the unique benefits of living on Grounds is the opportunity to participate in the Professors' Picks program! Participants select a book to read independently over Winter Break, and then discuss in late January/early February with the sponsoring faculty member. All books will be provided free of charge, as will food during the group discussion. The registration deadline is December 15, so go to housing.virginia.edu/professors-picks today to learn more and sign up!
