Besides rare medical books and manuscripts, Historical Collections also preserves institutional records! Here’s a fun example: a picture of the Corner from c. 1929 found in the UVA Medical Center Records, Box 4, folder 11.

We are swooning over the gorgeous paper designs in and on our books located in our Historical Collections department!

Please note that some new furniture for the after-hours space is still pending and is expected to arrive in May or June.

Come help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library on April 9, 2026. Featured programming includes an AI panel with guest speakers from Northwestern’s Institute for AI in Medicine and local AI experts at UVA Health, as well as an exploration of the Health Sciences Library’s past, present, and future. The day will also include an open house in Historical Collections, the opportunity to get a professional headshot, and a demo of VR and mixed reality in medical education.

Renovations @ the Health Sciences Library
Starting Friday Feb 27, several spaces will undergo updates. These improvements will enhance comfort, accessibility, and functionality. During this time some areas will be temporarily unavailable. More info here:

Join us in celebrating Black History Month with the installation of an exhibit in the lobby honoring Black Alumni at the UVA School of Medicine. An iPad at the end of the exhibit plays subtitled oral history interviews, with the current one showing an interview with Dr. Anastasia Williams.
