🎶 Section leaders connected, new scores in hand, and over 100 voices filling the rehearsal hall, the 2026-2027 season of The Oratorio Society of Virginia is officially underway!

First rehearsal energy hit all the right notes as returning singers reconnected and new members found their home in the choir. Music Director Michael Slon led us through our new repertoire, setting an incredible tone for the music ahead: Vivaldi's "Magnificat" in December, Music from Hungary in March, and Orff's epic "Carmina Burana" in May!

A massive welcome to our newest artistic team members joining the chorus: Andy Heil, Assistant Conductor and John Mayhood, Rehearsal Accompanist

This evening of remembrance is open to everyone as we come together to honor those we lost, recognize acts of courage and service, and share a moment of reflection through one of Mozart’s most powerful works.

Together, through music, we honor the lives lost, remember those who served and sacrificed, and reflect on the enduring strength of community, compassion, and hope.

On Saturday, September 12, members of several choruses including the UVA University Singers, Oratorio Society of Virginia, and Virginia Consort will join to sing through the Mozart Requiem in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The event takes place at 7:30 pm at St. Paul's Memorial Church on the Corner, and is FREE and open to the public to commemorate this solemn occasion. Supported by the UVA Office of Academic Outreach, and led by conductor Michael Slon with Deke Polifka at the piano and guest soloists, the community event will also honor local first responders, and echoes a singing of the work in 2011 for the 10th anniversary.

Join us for a special performance of Mozart’s Requiem to honor the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 - Saturday, 9/12, 7:30 pm, St. Paul’s Memorial Church on the Corner. Free to the community. With singers from University Singers, Oratorio Society of Virginia, Virginia Consort; conductor Michael Slon, pianist Deke Polifka, and soloists.
