Happy almost weekend ๐ฅณ Final introduction for our 22โ-23โ GRIT council!! Meet our Communications Chair Sarah! Sarah is a 3rd year MIC student in Natasha Sheybaniโs lab. Her project focuses on leveraging therapeutic ultrasound to potentiate liquid biopsy in preclinical models. Sarah spends her time outside the lab listening to music ๐ง, crafting ๐งถ, and watching anime with her friends.

Letโs welcome our 22โ-23โ Treasurer Raquel (she/her)! Raquel is a 3rd year student in Manoj Patelโs lab where she studies genetic epilepsies (she loves patch clamping!). Raquel spends her time outside the lab at a local ceramics studio where she makes functional ceramic art! She also loves social dancing ๐๐ป, rock climbing ๐งโโ๏ธ, and playing video games ๐ฎ.

Happy GRIT Day!! โ๏ธ Our last board member is Kendra Liu, who is our communications chair! She's from Goodyear, Arizona ๐ตand is a 3rd year in Sarah Kucenas' lab. Her research is focused on cell death and clearance in neurodevelopment. โ ๏ธ๐ง Outside of lab, Kendra enjoys playing Pokรฉmon and cuddling with her cat, Bean. ๐ฑ

So it's the perfect time to introduce Phoebe Cook, who is GRITโs Treasurer. ๐๐ธ๐ฐ๐ต๐ She is a fifth-year from Adamant, Vermont and studies the evolution of beetle social networks with Butch Brodie in the Biology department. ๐ชฒ๐ชฒ When she isnโt running around the woods looking for beetles ๐ฒ๐ฒ, sheโs running around the woods looking for people with the Blue Ridge Mountain Rescue Group! โ๏ธ๐๐จ

Today is Taylor Day! ๐ป Taylor Nystrom is GRITโs secretary and a silly billy. She is a 3rd year in the biology department, working on a collaboration between the Siegrist and Bergland labs, and her work focuses on how nutrition and natural genetic variation interact during neurogenesis. ๐ชฐ๐ง In addition to doing research, Taylor feels very passionate about science education and increasing community access to research science. When she is not doing or talking about science, Taylor likes to rock climb, read books, garden, and pet dogs. ๐งโโ๐๐งโ๐พ๐ถ Taylor is also the GOAT (greatest of all time)! ๐คฉ๐

What?? Two posts from GRIT this week? You're right! ๐คฉ It's cause we can't wait to introduce Rachana Bhave! ๐๐ Rachana is GRIT's VP for Biology. She is a 6th year from Pune, India and studies sexual selection in lizards with Bob Cox in the Department of Biology. ๐ฆ๐ฆWhen she is not thinking about lizards mating, she enjoys swimming ๐โโ๐ฅฝ, strength training ๐โโ, playing with the resident cat ๐ฑ, or lurking on youtube and social media. She is also passionate about teaching and is currently procrastinating by reading & thinking about the philosophy of higher ed and its intersection with race, gender, democracy, class and caste. If not in lab, you will find her at the cozy Atlas Coffee! โ๏ธ
