📚✨ We may spend our days supporting the learning of others, but we're lifelong learners, too!
Last week, our team gathered in Charlottesville for a professional development retreat to spark fresh perspectives, new ideas, and plenty to think about as we continue supporting educators and children.
Special thanks to Stephanie Weldy for sharing her expertise, and to UVA School of Education & Human Development for hosting us!
✨ Sometimes the best modifications come from simply knowing your children.
Ms. Jazmyn took the Classroom Scavenger Hunt Activity and added a twist she knew would spark excitement — hidden animals around the classroom and an alligator on the loose trying to find them first! 🐊
Suddenly, children weren’t just counting clues and following directions, they were fully engaged, moving, thinking, and problem-solving together.
The learning goal stayed the same: building Numeracy and Working Memory skills. The magic was in the modification.
A great reminder that sometimes the best teaching move is a small adjustment based on what your children love most.

🪞✨ Little moments of independence!
Ms. Jazmyn added a mirror and wipes to her classroom so children can independently check their faces, wipe their noses, and take care of themselves throughout the day.
Simple supports like this help children build Self-Care skills while promoting autonomy and confidence. Instead of relying on an adult to point things out, children begin noticing and responding to their own needs.
Sometimes the smallest classroom additions create the biggest opportunities for growth.

🧸🎡 Community, connection, and a little CavMan magic 💙🧡
Our team loved being part of KidChella this year alongside UVA Health and Ready Kids at the Teddy Bear Clinic!
At our booth, coach Pat and Miriam shared storybooks, early literacy resources, and simple take-home ideas from the ECE Resource Hub to help families support language and literacy at home. Because meaningful learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom — it happens in everyday moments with the people children love most.
And yes… it was officially Cav Man UVA approved 🧸📚✨
