Are your students’ handwriting habits
HELPFUL OR HARMFUL??
There are some common classroom practices around handwriting that are perpetuating poor handwriting skills in our young students.
Phones at home and
screens in classes means students RARELY SEEING ADULTS WRITING
with a pencil on paper.
How are they supposed to know what it looks like,
how letters are formed or how to “do a better job” when the
teacher sends them back to try again?
Physically show students how to write — modeling each letter, each stroke, with clear directionality — so they have a real-life example to follow.
When they can see how it’s done and get guided coaching as they practice, writing becomes less frustrating and so much more natural.
The curriculum and tools are helpful BUT handwriting instruction depends on you, the teacher, being the model, the coach, and the cheerleader. That’s what makes it click. ✍️✨
