During our science experiment, we noticed that the turmeric stained our hands, which sparked a new question: Could turmeric be used as paint? 🎨

We decided to extend our exploration by creating our own turmeric paint! As we mixed the turmeric and water, the children noticed that some of the mixture had small chunks where the turmeric hadn’t fully dissolved—giving us even more to observe, discuss, and investigate.

Extending activities based on children’s observations and questions encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and deeper learning. By giving children the opportunity to build on their own ideas, a simple science experiment can lead to an entirely new discovery! 💛

🧪 Little Chemists at Work! 🔦💛

Today we explored turmeric, water, and light while practicing early science skills like making hypotheses, observing, experimenting, and testing our ideas.

We started by wondering, “Will the turmeric glow when we shine a flashlight underneath?” When we saw that beautiful yellow glow, our next question was, “Why does it glow?”

We learned that turmeric contains a natural compound called curcumin, which can interact with light and create a bright, glowing appearance.

Of course, our little scientists had some wonderful observations of their own:

“It looks like pumpkin pie!” 🥧
“It looks like a nightlight!” 💡

Experiences like this remind us that science begins with something very simple: wondering why. 💛

Our students had a BIG treat last Friday when our favorite clinical psychologist, Dr. Taylor Palmitier, joined us to read her incredible books about BIG feelings!

As we continue learning more about ourselves during our “All About Me” unit, Dr. Taylor shared some wonderful techniques to help our students understand and manage their emotions. Now we know exactly what to do when we feel like a volcano about to erupt—or a lion who just needs to ROAR! 🦁🌋

We are so thankful to Dr. Taylor for spending time with us and giving our little learners tools they can use when those big feelings come along. ❤️

Today our little learners explored homemade cocoa playdough, and it smelled amazing! As they mixed, rolled, pressed, pinched, and shaped the dough, they engaged multiple senses while strengthening fine motor skills and hand muscles.

Preschool Prep: Squeezing Oranges! 🍊

Today our friends explored oranges by cutting and squeezing them as they discovered the different textures of the peel, pulp, and juicy fruit. This hands-on sensory experience engaged so many of our five senses while strengthening fine motor skills, building vocabulary, and encouraging curiosity through exploration.

The best learning happens when little hands are free to touch, investigate, and discover the world around them! 🧡
