🏫✨ Did you know? Part of the ongoing restoration of the east and west ends of CCS involves the original building constructed in 1939 as the Charlotte Town Hall.

About ten years later, Charlotte centralized its more than a dozen small schoolhouses into a new “Central School” built next door. 📚 Over the years, the two buildings were connected and expanded, eventually becoming the Charlotte Central School we know today.

As part of the current renovation, the section that once served as Town Hall is getting some special attention—including the restoration of the original sign that hung high on the front of the building and had become nearly unreadable in recent years. 🛠️❤️

We know there is much more history behind these walls! If you’re a local historian—or simply someone who knows more of the story—we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out. I’d love to connect and learn more.

It's easy to remember: If it's 8:00, you're late.

A healthy and successful start to the school day begins on time. When students are late, they miss the time we build into the day to settle in, and it impacts the entire classroom. We ask for your partnership in arriving before 8:00 AM each day.

When students are on time, they have the chance to ease into the morning, connect with peers in advisory or morning meeting, and feel settled for learning.

At CCS, to maintain focus and foster a positive school environment, we follow an “Away for the Day” approach for all personal devices, which is in line with other CVSD schools. This includes Cell phones, smart watches, tablets, e-readers, gaming systems, music players, and imaging devices with Wi-Fi or cell capability. As caregivers, you play a critical role helping set these expectations for our students, too.

Students are expected to leave these devices at home or keep them turned off and stored in lockers (Grades 5–8) or backpacks (Grades K–4) for the entire school day, including during school events such as field trips, dances, and after-school programs. If a student needs to contact a caregiver during non-instructional time, a school phone is available. You can read more about this in our CCS handbook.

Two CCS Musicals Coming This Year!

We are excited to renew our partnership with Very Merry Theatre to produce two musicals at CCS this year. Very Merry will continue to lead our middle school musical and, for the first time at CCS, will also produce a K–4 musical this fall: The House at Pooh Corner.

Featuring Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Christopher Robin, and other creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood, the show follows these beloved characters through a series of troubles and adventures.

We are still finalizing the details, but rehearsals are expected to begin the week of September 28, coinciding with the first week of our SPARK after-school clubs. Performances are planned for early November. Our preliminary thinking has students in grades 2–4 able to audition for roles, while students in K–1 invited to participate in one or two songs as part of a larger ensemble.

Right now, we are looking for two lead parent volunteers. Don and the Very Merry Theatre team rely on these volunteers to serve as liaisons between the directing team and the larger group of family volunteers. If you are interested in serving as one of the leads—or would like to volunteer as a team—please email Tim O’Leary at [email protected].

More information will be coming soon, but we are thrilled to add this new opportunity for our younger students!

Yesterday was full of first-day-of-school highlights 💚📚✨

One of our favorites: seeing an older sibling walk their new kindergarten sibling to class for their very first day as a CCS student. 🥹🎒🫶

There’s something pretty special about starting your CCS journey with a big sibling by your side. 💚

CCS Principal Tim O’Leary and new Assistant Principal & Director of Special Services Lauren Goracy have been collaborating all summer—and stopped for a quick photo to celebrate getting a few things checked off the very long summer to-do list! ✅🙌

There’s still plenty to do, but it’s exciting to see the pieces coming together as we get ready to welcome everyone back to CCS. 🏫💚✨

May and Audrey stopped for just a moment to pose for this photo! 📸✨

May is a second-shift custodian during the school year, and Audrey is our daytime custodian. Together, they’re part of a small team doing superhuman work this summer to renew and refresh CCS. 💪🏫

Cleaning, dusting, waxing, moving, lifting, organizing… 🧹🧽✨ the list goes on and on.

So much happens behind the scenes to get a school ready for a new year. We’re incredibly grateful for May, Audrey, and the whole crew making it happen! ❤️🙌
