At ourBRIDGE, students receive homework help, engage in a culturally relevant curriculum that is developed in-house and emphasizes hands-on learning.

ourBRIDGE is a Charlotte-based organization that fosters the education, acculturation, and well-being of refugee and immigrant families through out-of-school programs and comprehensive, culturally-responsive wraparound support to hundreds of families ourBRIDGE for KIDS is the only non-faith based organization in Charlotte and surrounding areas that attends to the academic and socio-emotional needs of refugee and immigrant children and their families. Our afterschool and summer programs are based on our four core values of LERD (Love, Education, Respect, and Diversity), and support ELL (English Language Learners) students as they adjust to their new home in the United States. Our students and their families are a part of a welcoming, loving, and healing-centered community that places an importance on their cultural identity. Our programs have been shaped by and for our community. We work alongside Charlotte immigrant and refugee neighbors to offer community-centered out-of-school programs. Socio-emotional Development

ourBRIDGE offers a developmentally responsive environment that embraces the diverse needs of each student and family. Using a child-centered and trauma-informed approach to care, ourBRIDGE recognizes that immigrant and refugee children have an array of experiences that impact their development. At ourBRIDGE, we honor our communities innate resilience. We create a supportive and loving learning environment that promotes children’s innate resilience and their capacity to overcome trauma and toxic stress.

Our first week flew by!💙

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been intentional about preparing our classrooms not only with the tools they need to succeed, but with a deeper understanding of what it means to create spaces where every ourBRIDGE kid feels safe, supported, seen, and valued.

Now, with our BRIDGE kids back, we’re so excited for everything this school year will bring.🩷

Congratulations to ourBRIDGE’s founder, Sil Ganzó, on receiving the 2025 Charlotte Woman of the Year award, becoming the first Latina in the honor’s more than 70-year history to receive this recognition!

When Sil founded ourBRIDGE, she created a legacy that continues to grow today. Her own experience as an immigrant woman searching for belonging and stability inspired her to build an organization that has now helped thousands of immigrant and refugee families in Charlotte find support, opportunity, and a place to belong.

Sil has worked tirelessly toward a future where every child in our community has a happy childhood. She has shown courage in the face of darkness and been a source of light for so many navigating their own darkest moments.

Sil acceptance speech last night recminded us that we all have a light inside of us - a capacity to do something remarkable. She calls on us to use our light to fight for justice, community, and belonging for all.

Thank you for this powerful reminder, Sil. From all of us at ourBRIDGE—our staff, board, and volunteers—thank you, Sil, for your tremendous courage to envision and fight for a future where every newcomer in Charlotte has the opportunity to thrive.
We carry your vision forward, building on the foundation you laid and guided always by the values of Love, Education, Respect and Diversity.

As we prepare to open our doors for ourBRIDGE families, our South Site families spent some time giving back to their school community!

Families came together at Pinewood Elementary; together they cleared weeds, prepared the flower beds, and organized the garden space.

These are the same gardens our students use for our club in the spring, making it a great opportunity for families to help prepare a space they’ll enjoy throughout the year. 💙🩷
