It’s hard to believe another school year is coming to a close. 🌿

Today we celebrated the way we know best — gathered together in community, sharing food, traditions, memories, and one more sweet summer afternoon together.

Our end-of-year potluck is always one of the most cherished days of the year. Children proudly flipping through their photo albums, families gathered around picnic tables, popsicles melting in little hands, and our 4/5s class preparing to spread their wings for kindergarten.

There’s something so bittersweet about this season — watching the children grow, reflecting on how much has changed over the year, and saying goodbye (for now) to a community that becomes part of your everyday life.

How lucky are we to have something so special that makes saying goodbye so hard. 🤍

Our annual PPP Art Show was held this past week, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make it such a meaningful success. 🎨✨

As a community, we gathered to celebrate the creativity and growth of our children—viewing artwork they’ve explored throughout the year and bidding on special collaborative pieces created by each class.

Moments like these reflect what makes PPP so special: connection, creativity, and coming together in support of our school. Thank you for being part of it. 💛

With heavy hearts, we share that the beloved co-founder of PPP, Susan Burns, has passed away.

Her vision created more than a school; it created a community rooted in love, respect, and wonder. She was deeply loved, widely respected, and a true light in this world.

We invite you to hold her and her family in your hearts as we honor the incredible legacy she leaves behind.

Spring has arrived in the garden at PPP 🌱

During our first outdoor gardening day of the season, students decorated biodegradable seed pots and planted flower seeds—getting their hands in the soil while learning how plants grow from seed to harvest.

Moments like these are part of how we approach early childhood: hands-on learning, time in nature, and honoring the changing seasons through meaningful experiences.

Because sometimes the best classroom is the garden.

PPP’s Spring Family Work Day was a huge success 🌿

Thank you to our incredible parent volunteers (and a few enthusiastic helpers!) who spent the day caring for the spaces our children learn and play in every day.

Together we sanded play structures, planted flowers, shoveled mulch and sand, washed toys, rearranged creek rocks, and even gave a few well-loved toys a fresh coat of paint. The kids are going to be so excited to arrive on Monday to a refreshed playground and outdoor space.

Parent volunteering is a meaningful part of the strong family community at Piedmont Progressive Preschool. Days like this help us care for our outdoor learning spaces while keeping our program accessible for families.

We are so grateful for the time, energy, and care our families pour into this school.

If you helped out on work day, drop a 🌿 below so we can thank you!

Some days the classroom has a creek. 🌿

With warmer weather, our days naturally stretch outdoors — exploring the creek, pouring water, digging in the sandbox, sharing lunch together, and following curiosity wherever it leads.

Outdoor play gives children space to move, wonder, experiment, and discover at their own pace. At PPP, we believe some of the best learning happens through hands-on exploration, sensory play, and time spent in nature.

Just another spring day of learning through play.

🥞 Make Your Own Pancake Day at PPP!

Today our students became little chefs — cracking eggs, measuring ingredients, mixing batter, and cooking their own pancakes from scratch.

Hands-on cooking activities help children practice:
• fine motor skills
• following steps
• teamwork
• independence

And of course… the best part was enjoying the pancakes they made. 🍓

Moments like this turn everyday learning into something memorable.

✨ If your child made pancakes, what toppings would they choose?

Strawberries? Butter? Maple syrup?

Woodworking is now underway! 🪵✨

At Piedmont Progressive Preschool, woodworking is more than a project — it’s a meaningful extension of our child-led philosophy.

Children begin by writing their own names on the sign-up sheet (early literacy in action), gather real tools with care and responsibility, and work alongside parent volunteers who help bring our preschool community to life.

As they measure, hammer, and create, they are:
• strengthening fine motor skills
• developing hand–eye coordination
• building problem-solving skills
• practicing perseverance
• growing confidence

Each piece is guided by imagination and ownership — no two creations look the same, because no two learners are the same.

This is hands-on learning.
This is community.
This is play-based preschool at PPP. 💛
