Happy 24th Anniversary to Maximize CommonSense! A new year...new adventures!

Stop lamenting over past decisions and start focusing on your current life! As the year draws to a close, it's crucial to reflect on what has transpired and to strategize for the future. I've always found guidance in a particular saying that keeps me focused: "I can't miss what I can't measure." This quote serves as a reminder to remain grounded and avoid becoming stuck in unproductive thought patterns.

Regrets can act as anchors, holding you back when you should be driven and intentional. It's easy to dwell on missed opportunities or mistakes, but doing so can prevent you from seeing the potential that lies ahead. Instead, consider quantifying your progress and achievements. According to research, setting measurable goals can increase your chances of success by as much as 42%. By focusing on what you can measure, you allow yourself to track your growth and development, leading to a more fulfilling and goal-oriented life.

This time of the year is an excellent opportunity to review what you've accomplished and where you want to go. Take the time to set clear, measurable objectives for the coming months. Whether it's enhancing your career, improving personal relationships, or seeking new experiences, having specific targets will keep you motivated and on track. Remember, regrets can be a powerful distraction, but with a focused and purposeful mindset, you have the power to shape your future.

I love this time of year! I "protect" the last 2-3 weeks of the year for quiet reflection, recharge, and preparation.

When you're constantly "there" for others, I find that I also need to be "there" for myself. The attached quote is a part of my mantra: "I can't miss what I can't measure." I allow gratitude to lead me and faith to ground me.

Read the quote, and share your thoughts on it! Look forward to hearing from you!

Early Happy Holidays, Everyone!

November 15-16, I had the honor of participating in the 85th Anniversary Gala and worship services with the Columbia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Gala imparted expanded wisdom of one of the Chapter's Charter Members and first president, Soror Lt. Colonel Charity Adams-Earley.

Lt. Colonel Adams-Earley led the Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-Black, all-female battalion, in World War II. Her story is depicted onscreen by Kerry Washington, in the Tyler Perry movie - "The Six Triple Eight". What a life and what a legacy...a legacy that also includes her commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as Columbia Alumnae Chapter's first President. A phenomenal woman leading the way for other phenomenal women, today!

I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, an organization that exemplifies and amplifies my personal commitments to my God, my community, my family, and to myself. I joined Delta 33 years ago, and I have always been proud of my choice and this sisterhood.

To be a part of this 85th Anniversary Gala was an honor for me, as I joined other Gala sponsors - Congressman Jim Clyburn, FedEx, the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, and others.

We rounded out our weekend in worship at First Calvary Baptist Church - Rev. Dr. Samuel Lewis and the gracious members of this church warmly welcomed us. I do love a beautiful church!
Special thanks to my guests: my brother Master Chief Joey Bennett, USN Ret., my lovely sister-in-love, Audrey, Petty Officer, Isaac Pryor, USN Ret. and his wife, Marilyn, Elder Sean Cartwright, and his wife, Monique, my dear friend, Mildred Gaines (Monique's mom), Elder Toney Greene (VBM), Fredrick Gregory (VBM), Virginia Suber (VBM), Rev. Simon Buie, Janie Foulks, Harriett Garrett! Thank you for coming!

Finally, a very special shoutout to my dear friend, and Godmother (sometimes) and Sister (all the time), Soror Doris Glymph Greene, you are such a bright light and a constant source of encouragement and support! Every blessing to you for a long life!

Please enjoy this video glimpse of our weekend and another source of godly pride for me. I have so much to be thankful for...my "tribe" is one of those blessings!

Cheers, everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving-
LD

Something to consider…

I’m sure you’re like many folks out here doing what you do. As a result, you get unsolicited advice like: “heads up” observations, and the always pseudo caring head tilt and “it’s none of my business BUT… if I were you, I would do…” or “if I was in that situation…I would…” comments quite frequently. Well, after hearing these comments from executive coaching clients for many years, I thought to share with you, what I shared with them. Hope you find it helpful! See below.

Unlocking your team's success can seem a relentless journey through inconsistency. Fortunately or unfortunately, the leader's energy has a major impact.
A leader's energy is key to unlocking team success and can make or break a team's engagement, inclusion, and creativity.

There's a misconception that because the team has highly skilled professionals that how they are being led, doesn't matter. Well, research has proven that thinking to be unrealistic. Passion and energy are vital in this time of great uncertainty and either gives the space to do and to be...or the lack thereof can stifle a team and stunt its growth.

Great talent alone does not determine success! Sports teams are a great example of this insight. Few teams that are loaded with talent and poor coaching ever reach their potential and championship form. The way a coach shows up every day inspires, motivates, and guides that talent to work better together to accomplish their shared goal.

How are you showing up for your team...day in and day out?

Laughter is a super power that most people don't tap into! Laughter can be seen as "not serious" or that you or your team is not taking things "seriously" as they should. On the contrary, research has shown that laughter is good for our mind and body and brings us to more creative and innovative solutions for problems. Make room for more laughter!

Unlock creativity through the joy of laughter!

Unlock your genius and the genius of your team by making humor a part of your work. Watch innovation and creativity explode before your very eyes! Many times, humor is frowned upon and a distraction or not "serious" for the challenges a team faces. Not so, humor opens our minds and brains to more creativity, innovation and collaboration! Try it!

Inject some humor to ignite creativity and fuel innovation!
