Day 2 of My Sketch ✏️
All week, my drawing sat open on my desk, waiting for me to pick up my charcoal—but the days slipped by, and I never got to it. This Saturday morning, while waiting at my son’s race, I finally found a moment to work on it again. Hoping to make more progress and finish it next week!
Have you ever had a project waiting for you like this? Let me know in the comments!

“A Sketch Inspired by Anne Frank”
I read The Diary of Anne Frank as a teenager, and it inspired me to start writing a diary every day. This sketch is my attempt to capture Anne.
I always carry my art supplies wherever I go—though, more often than not, they stay tucked away. On this ski trip, my family rolled their eyes when I packed them (again!).
But after a day on the slopes, they went snow tubing while I had to sit it out due to vertigo. Instead of scrolling on my phone, I finally pulled out my sketchbook and got to work.
It felt amazing to create again! Grateful for the unexpected moments that bring us back to what we love.

So , I kept my sketchbook open and kept working on it a little at a time, and now I call it done. My first still life in 23 years . Will I make more? Who knows !
For now I feel accomplished as I tried something other than people/portraits!

How I hate drawing still life! This drawing has been so challenging for me.
This year I have planned on pushing myself to create all assignments my students would.
Still Life Observation drawing is so important in your drawing journey. I want my students to learn placement, proportion and perspective to improve their drawing skills. I wanted to challenge myself to draw a still life before I introduce this unit.
The last time I drew a still life composition was more than 22-23 years ago, oh how I hated doing it then and I cannot believe I hate drawing still life’s even now ! I really have had to push myself multiple times to continue.
How can i instill love for drawing these inanimate objects in my students when I myself is struggling to get past!!
For now I’m calling it done, I may visit this again later. As I tell my students better done then perfect!
Do I like it? NO!! But I am proud of myself for pushing and digging in deep to reach at this stage. To be continued…

“Doing ...Being” - 15.4 x 10.6
Cold press watercolor paper
My intention of the year 2021 is to create a balance between doing and being. I want to remind myself to slow down and find my center, breathe and just be!
