A representative from the US Department of State will host an information session on February 28th from 4pm to 6pm in Cone 111. Students will be able to learn how they can get involved with US Foreign Policy and maintaining diplomatic relations throughout the world. SUBJECT: May 2013 Student Commencement Speakers and Bell Ringers Search
The Dean of Students Office is currently seeking two student speakers and two bell ringers for the May commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The commencement speaker for each ceremony must represent the University well relative to good speaking skills, character, and school spirit. The bell ringer is an honorable tradition that will recognize two outstanding student leaders who have demonstrated exemplary 49er spirit. The individuals should be graduating in May with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and be in good disciplinary standing with the University. One speaker and one bell ringer will be selected for each ceremony.
Please share this information with students you feel are qualified for these prestigious honors at graduation. To apply, students need to simply click the below link which will take them to the online application. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. The deadline to apply for Commencement Speaker and Bell Ringer is March 15, 2013.

Apply for the: 2013 MICHAEL A. PEARSON SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Michael A. Pearson was a faculty member in Sociology for 25 years before his death in 2002. In his honor, his family and friends have instituted an annual scholarship award for students who share his interests and goals in improving race relations, expanding social justice, and establishing a more peaceful world. The 2013 award will be $1,000 to be applied toward Fall 2013 tuition at UNC Charlotte.
Who is eligible?
Rising juniors, seniors, and graduate students in Sociology, Anthropology, Gerontology or University Honors at UNC Charlotte.
How to apply
Interested students should submit the following 3 materials:
1. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Please describe relevant interests, accomplishments, and community involvement (500-750 words).
2. A TRANSCRIPT (an unofficial transcript from the Web is acceptable).
3. ONE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION from a faculty member, community leader, or supervisor.
