Last week's Jazz Band Concert featured 20 custom-designed band stands created by Ballantyne Ridge High School Senior Sam Armstrong.
Sam designed, built, and customized the portable, collapsible stands as part of his Eagle Scout service project. A Scout since first grade, Sam has held numerous leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Unit College Scouter Reserve, and Bugler. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has now attained the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
The project was inspired by Sam's passion for music and his active role in the BRHS Jazz Band. A trumpet player of seven years, he has performed with the NC All-State, All-District, Western Regional Jazz, and CMS Honors bands, as well as several local jazz ensembles. Constantly expanding his musical skills, Sam has also learned to play the drums, tuba, and trombone.
In addition to his commitment to Scouting and music, Sam maintains a rigorous academic schedule with multiple AP courses, holding a 4.3 GPA. Outside the classroom, he works at Mellow Mushroom and operates a neighborhood lawn care service.
Sam is also a multi-sport athlete competing in ultimate frisbee and lacrosse. He has played ultimate frisbee since sixth grade for Fury, Flight, and various youth teams through Charlotte Ultimate, and currently competes with the South Meck Ultimate Club. This year, Sam enters his third season as a defenseman for the Ballantyne Ridge High School Men’s Lacrosse team.
Sam's band stand project will benefit the BRHS instrumental program for years to come. Congratulations to Sam on earning his Eagle Scout rank—his dedication to Ballantyne Ridge and the community makes him a shining example of a Ballantyne Ridge Wolf!
