Dixon Academy started from the dream of a young lady wanted to make a difference in young children's lives The dream to nurture and educate children from an early age was a natural fit, from a family of educators. The first center opened in Charlotte, NC in October 1995 and Dixon Academy has been in full bloom since. Our centers are filled with administrators, teachers and support staff who enjoy

children. Our team believes that each child deserves the very best in life and we are here to support that. That’s why our motto is “Your child is our first priority”.

Childcare staffing shortage headlines make it sound like the hard part of this work is hiring.
The hardest thing I ever did had nothing to do with hiring.

In 2013 I closed a center I built with my own money, on New Year's Eve, and told everyone it was the right business call.
It was the right business call.
It also put me on my own front hall floor that night with two friends picking me up.

People see four locations and thirty years and assume the line went straight up.
It did not. One of those locations was closed for nine years and leased to somebody else, and that is the one that is about to be paid off.

Save this for the day the decision is obvious on paper and impossible in your chest.

She built her own reading nook out of stars and a blanket, and disappeared into a book for twenty quiet minutes.

We build our days around moments like this one. Quiet, curious, and completely hers.

A great childcare center doesn't just help today. It changes tomorrow.

I learned that the hard way in 2013, sitting with my accountant, looking at numbers that told me the truth before my feelings caught up.

Closing Harrisburg wasn't about today. It was about protecting what the next thirty years could still become.

Every decision I've made since then gets asked the same question: not "does this help right now," but "what does this build."

Send this to the director making a decision that feels hard today but is really about tomorrow.

People still think play is what happens between the real lessons. I've spent thirty years watching the opposite.

Send this to the parent who still thinks play time is the break, not the lesson.

On the floor, hands busy, working something out piece by piece. It looks like play because it is play; it's also how little brains learn to problem-solve, wait their turn, and try again when something doesn't fit the first time.

We keep space in every classroom for exactly this kind of learning.

We'd love to show you a real day here. Book a tour whenever you're ready.

Four campuses. One approach. Whether you're at West Blvd, Howard Levine, Concord, or Harrisburg, your child gets the same thing: teachers who know them, not just their file.

That's not a tagline for us. It's just how we've run things for 30 years.

Childcare workforce shortage is the headline right now, but I want to tell you about the day it stopped being a headline for me and started being a mirror.

We had over 100 employees inside Dixon Academy. A real team, built over years, across four locations. And when I looked around for who was ready to step into leadership, ready to run a room the way I once had to, I could not find one person I trusted to do it without me standing over their shoulder.

That is not a hiring problem. Hiring problems get solved with a better job post. This was a pipeline problem. We had trained teachers. We had never trained leaders. Nobody had. Not me, not the field, not a single program I could point to and say, go copy that.

So I built the thing I could not find. I went from classroom teacher to administrator to running four sites at once to now sitting off-site, watching people I trained run the day-to-day without me. That climb is not a resume line. That is the actual curriculum for The Launch Collective, because I am not teaching a theory I read about. I am teaching the exact steps I had to invent for myself, because nobody handed them to me.

If you are a director right now and you have the whole plan for your own team's growth sitting in your head, unwritten, that is not disorganization. That is exactly where I was. The difference is I stopped waiting for someone else to build the ladder and built it myself. Directors elsewhere are about to feel their own state shift, the way Illinois and Nebraska already have. The ones who already have people ready to lead will be the ones who are not scrambling when it does.

Save this for the director who is still the only trained leader on her team.

Five things parents actually look for on a childcare tour, in this order: an easy-to-use website, a clean and welcoming building, a warm greeting at the door, kids who sound genuinely happy inside, and doors that stay locked.

None of it's an accident. It's what tells you a center is actually running well, not just looking good for a tour.
