A beloved member of the Trinity community for 20 years, Juan Carlos Rodriguez pours his heart into Trinity every day, often behind the scenes.

The Latino Heritage Month K-8 Chapel was a special chance to hear Juan Carlos’ life story, from his childhood in Colombia to the moments when he has leaned on his faith. We are honored to call Juan Carlos a member of the Trinity family.

Our thanks to the students and parents of the Café con Padres affinity group for this time to celebrate the Latino heritage represented at Trinity and the broader world.

Scenes from the annual Community Walk 👟

Thanks to all who joined in the walk through our corner of First Ward as a way of making connections with fellow Trinity Wildcats.

A special thanks to the West Charlotte High School drumline for laying down the beats once again, and to artist Rosalia Torres Weiner, whose artwork that began last year at TogetherFest was unveiled and will be displayed in the Center for Community and the Arts.

It’s the reveal that Kindergarten and 8th Grade have been looking forward to for the past month—finding out their Science Buddies!

8th Grade Buddies couldn’t wait to open the envelope to see who their Kindergarten Buddies are. This Trinity tradition is a beloved part of Trinity’s K-8 experience. For many of our 8th Grade Wildcats, it’s a full-circle moment from the time they were in Kindergarten, looking up to our oldest students.

After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the Trinity community wondered what it could do to support New York. Within days, students and parents were painting messages of hope, love, and support on banners that were displayed at St. Paul’s Chapel near Ground Zero.

Founding Head of School “Smokey” Oats, Visual Arts Director Jen Rankey-Zona, and Trinity grandparent the Rev. Dr. Stuart Hoke reflect on that dark day and the humanity that emerged.

Kindergarten students went behind the scenes at service-learning partner Nourish Up to see the work it takes to provide meals and groceries to neighbors.

Students learned that 430 meals are delivered each day, and soon they will be delivering some of those meals as they learn about access to food through their grade’s partnership with NourishUp. It’s the beginning of the many years of service-learning work they will undertake as Trinity students.

The first weeks of school are all about giving students space to flex their creative muscles, one brushstroke and one note at a time.

The art studios have been humming with ideas, while upstairs students have the space to move around the room and learn the different tempos of music or pick up an instrument to find their rhythm.

“We, who are many, are one body.”

That passage from Romans was fitting for Trinity’s first K-8 Chapel of the school year - a year that is centered on the ways we are all connected as a school community.

In her Chapel Talk, Head of School Imana Sherrill said, “Connection does not require a grand gesture. It requires us to pay attention to one another.”

As part of the connection theme, staculty were gifted a puzzle piece, which they connected with colleagues in Friday’s Chapel.

What are ways we can reach out and build connection this year?

A hop, skip, and a jump is all it took for Wildcats to find their stride at the start of the school year.
