We sat down with and urged them to prioritize student mental health and bridge the digital divide. We know these things are true:
1. Schools must support the mental wellbeing of students and heal the effects of generational trauma.
2. Inequitable funding has led to marginalized students receiving fewer technological resources.
The DOE has power to address these issues. We provided our recommendations on how to approach these problems and will continue to hold leaders accountable as we look to the future.

A fierce advocate for women’s rights, non-violence, LGBT rights, and civil rights, King is precisely the kind of individual Our Turn’s student leaders look to when making change around education inequity.

On March 1, 2021, when was sworn in as Secretary of Education, we - a body of BIPOC student organizers who work tirelessly to progress equity in education - were filled with so much hope during this historical moment.
We felt empowered to see someone who looks like us, sounds like us, and shares experiences in understanding the urgency of pursuing equity for students like US. However, so far, it feels like our voices remain unheard, and we are running out of time. ⏰ 😑
Today, we are entering a 10 Day countdown to day #100 🗓️ of the Biden-Harris Administration. and , we hope that you will answer our urgent plea to empower BIPOC & LGBTQ+ - youth voices by sharing a post in support of the Raise Your Hand Student Agenda for Equity today.
