Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Black Care Exchange last Saturday! It was good to gather, laugh, connect, and just “be.”

A special thank you to The Daily Pour Coffee Shop for partnering with BCDC to help us “pour” back into our early educators. Thank you for opening your doors and helping us create a space where the people caring for our babies can feel cared for, too. That matters.

Join us again November 14th, from 9–10 AM, at The Daily Pour. Bring a friend; we’ll have a special surprise for each educator in the building!

FPG Equity Research Action Coalition Founding Director Iheoma Iruka, PhD, has been named to the Brookings Task Force on AI and Early Childhood Development (Birth to Age Eight).

This Task Force is part of the Brookings Institution’s Generation AI Starts Early initiative and builds on the learnings of Brookings’ first Task Force on AI in Education, which focused on older children.

On December 12, 2026, Black Child Development–Carolinas will gather families, early educators, policymakers, advocates, young people, business and philanthropic leaders, and community from across North and South Carolina for one powerful day.

One Day. Two Carolinas. One Commitment to Black Children and Families.

The 2026 Champions of Change Regional Summit will not be another day of talking about what needs to change.

We’re building a room where:

✨ Parents sit beside policymakers.
✨ Early educators are recognized as experts.
✨ Young people help shape conversations about their futures.
✨ Community wisdom meets decision-making power.
✨ We celebrate the people already creating change.
✨ And conversation leads to commitment and ACTION.

Because the question before us isn't simply, “What do Black children and families need?”

It is:

What are WE willing to do differently so they can thrive?

Dr. Devonya Govan-Hunt is the President & CEO of Black Child Development-Carolinas and owner of Govan-Hunt Staff Development, LLC. A nationally recognized leader in early childhood education, health equity, family engagement, and systems change, she focuses on advancing equitable outcomes through strategic partnerships, policy advocacy, and community-driven solutions.

In her role as a board member, Dr. Govan-Hunt brings extensive expertise in nonprofit leadership, coalition building, organizational strategy, and community engagement to help Harmony Health Therapeutic Services advance equitable, community-centered healthcare initiatives.

Her relationship with Harmony Health builds on strong existing roots: she has served as a nonprofit mentor to Momma Bey, and BCDI-Carolinas has acted as a fiscal sponsor for the organization.

Reflecting on her decision to join, Dr. Govan-Hunt shared her "why":

"For me, too, it was a no brainer! To be in the room with someone who is as authentic and tell it like it is, is a breathe of fresh air for me."

This was the CONSISYENT message from each board member about supporting HH and about Momma Bey’s work and character.
