What if the things your student cares about could actually help point them toward a college major or career? Today is World Humanitarian Day, a day that recognizes humanitarian workers and the people affected by crises around the world. It also gives us a reason to think about the students who are drawn to helping others, solving problems, protecting the environment, improving health, or understanding what is happening in the world around them. Those interests can lead in many directions—from public health and international relations to environmental studies, social work, political science, and other fields focused on making a difference.
Your student doesn't need to know their major yet. But when they tell you what they care about, listen. Those conversations can be the beginning of some very useful discoveries.
What is one issue your student cares deeply about? Tell me in the comments.
