Our district is working on revamping our STEAM initiative and today we 🎉kicked off 🎉the new cohort with a STEAM day at
📍We toured the park to explore about STEAM connections.
🚁Worked together to build a helicopter and escape the jungle.
👩🏼‍🏫Heard from our colleagues with ideas to take back to the classroom
🎢 AND OF COURSE got to end the day with a couple rides!

After teaching this unit 12 times over the past few years I’ve FINALLY found something I like, that works! 🙌🏼 Students were split into random groups to read one of these books about cerebral palsy to kick off our AFO project in Design and Modeling. They took notes about the facts or lessons they learned. Then we did a Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up to share out.
It got the kids talking and moving! When we started the brainstorming they were engaged and had real stories to tie it back to!

School may be out but I’m looking back at some of the awesomeness of my students. I’ve never gotten to this project before and I loved to see the perseverance of the kids as they helped each other and combined their pieces of the assembly line.
