QUALIFICATIONS:

- Ability to write in Associated Press (AP) writing style or within Chicago Manual of Style writing guidelines.
- Graphic design. experience across a wide variety of project scopes and knowledge of best practices.
- Established record of accomplishment in securing press coverage.
- Proven ability to write, source and photograph content for brochures, print, broadcast and social media, and for the web.
- Exceptional writing, proofreading, and content editing skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in a related field.

- Minimum 1-3 years' experience working with students, preferably students with disabilities

JOB FUNCTIONS:

- As directed by the teacher, provide instruction in the areas of early academics, K-12 academics, vocational and employment, self-care, life skills, and social emotional learning

- Assist in preparation and organization of instructional materials

- Implement behavior support plans for students with significant behavior challenges which can result in the student displaying physically aggressive behaviors towards self or others

- Assist students in meeting their immediate self-care needs related to feeding, toileting, and hygiene

- Implement strategies to support students with severe language impairments including modeling the use of assistive technology

- Demonstrate the ability to keep all information regarding a student and their family confidential

The Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor is hosting its second-ever sensory-friendly event. They're bringing Artrageous to the stage for a special offering on Saturday, October 10, at 2 p.m.

Bus safety is always at the forefront at the start of the school year - and all year long!

The Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation has partnered with former NFL and Detroit Lions offensive tackle Lomas Brown for a series of videos imploring the driving public to slow down when you see a school bus with flashing lights and prepare to stop.

The safety and well-being of our students throughout Char-Em ISD depends on drivers slowing down and paying attention, especially at back-to-school time!

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬

Six students spent seven weeks this summer building skills for careers in one of the most in-demand trades in the current workforce: Welding and fabrication. Not only were the students trained in this essential skill, they were paid to undertake the training as well.

Northwest Michigan Works!, Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District and its Career and Technical Education Department, and East Jordan Public Schools' career and technical education welding program and its instructor partnered to provide a summer learning opportunity for high school students to build their career in welding and fabrication.

Through the Young Professionals grant program, six students spent seven weeks under the instruction of David Muladore while earning $18 an hour. The class members worked on projects for the community including repairing several trailers and signs and creating an animal-proof trash bin, a memorial bench, and a 6’4” metal frame of a person that can now be found at Gil-Roy’s hardware in East Jordan holding a chain saw.

Students also handled some welding repairs on-site in the community, and were appreciative that East Jordan Plastics let them take a tour of their manufacturing plant. Northwest Michigan Works! provided each student with a tool kit and necessary equipment they could use during the work experience and to keep after the program. All six of the students received a welding certificate after the program, which attests to their skill and ambition, said Tracy Beckley, Youth Services Regional Director for Northwest Michigan Works.

Jim Rummer, Char-Em ISD Director of Career and Technical Education, said that the Young Professionals Welding Program is another example of real-world skills young adults in northwest Michigan are gaining through career and technical education.

“Programs like these are a testament to the collaboration we have in our community among agencies that have a common goal: Supporting young adults with the skills they need to enter the workforce,” said Rummer. “Each day during the school year and during the majority of each summer, our CTE team and our partners are developing classes, programs, camps, and trainings aimed at making sure our local young people learn tangible skills and find career paths that they enjoy and that can set them up for success.”
