“She would have been 7 years old on Feb 27. I rescued her when she was 2 days old. She had been released several times and always stayed close to home. she came back to give birth to her babies. Watching her delivery and raising her kits was the most amazing experience I have ever had being a rehabber. She was a fighter, she survived distemper, she was poisoned, several different attacks in the wild. The distemper left her with neurological issues, that point she was deemed non-releasable. She has been indoors with me for almost 5 years now. Her and I have been so much together. We both dependent on each other she could make it without me and I couldn't make it without her. The bond that her and I developed with each other was like no other that I've ever experienced. NAWTY fell asleep on my chest her last night and when I woke up she was still laying on my chest she looked up at me and licked my chin once then took a few deep breaths and she was gone. My heart is hurting so bad. I am totally lost without her. She was my soulmate there's no words that can describe how much I loved her. Thank you for accepting me into this group. And I'm sending my heartfelt condolences to all that have lost their love. Many blessings to you all.

While it's still winter in the refuge, we have spotted the first hints of spring! Orontium aquaticum, known as Golden Club or Neverwet, are one of the first bloomers in the swamp. If you keep your eyes peeled while paddling you might see some!

Very cool article about karst topography. This is in China, but Florida also has extensive areas of karst topography or terrain. This article breaks down very simply how that process works.

A6 - Organic Bodies field indicator of hydric soil.
As seen on wetland delineation site in Osceola County, FL (Land Resource Region U).
Presence of 2 % or more organic bodies of muck or a mucky modified mineral texture starting at a depth ≤15 cm (6 inches) from the soil surface.
Organic bodies typically occur at the tips of fine roots. To meet the Organic Bodies indicator, the organic carbon content in organic bodies must meet the requirements of muck or mucky modified textures. The size of the organic body is not specifically defined, but the bodies are commonly 0.5 to 1 inch in diameter. Many organic bodies do not have the required content of organic carbon and as a result, do not meet this indicator. For example, organic bodies of mucky peat (hemic material) and/or peat (fibric material) do not meet the requirements of this indicator, nor does material consist of partially decomposed root tissue. The Organic Bodies indicator includes the indicator previously named “accretions” (Florida Soil Survey Staff, 1992).
