Congratulations to Mrs. Williams, Ms. Lazauskas and Ms. Chapman for getting out there to race this morning. Weekend math problem for our students: How many miles is a 15K? Hint: A 5K is 3.1 miles. Tell your answer to Mrs. Williams on Monday. If you are right, you will get a spirit ticket!

Congratulations to our 2nd quarter President’s Award recipients!
Our first graders are working to learn the magnitude of numbers from 1 to 120. Students in 1-3 created number paths from number grids and played a Find The Number game!
2nd nine weeks report cards have been sent home today. Please review your child's report card, sign it and return it to their teacher.
We will celebrate the 2nd nine-week accomplishments of our students during our Spirit Rallies next week. They will be held in the Commons Building. Please stop by the office for a visitor's pass.
Today is an Early Dismissal day. Please notify your child's teacher of any transportation changes. We will not have school on Monday, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr day.
The Springfield Track Team did an awesome job today at the Charleston Youth Marathon! Thanks to Coach Hansen for leading the team and to all of our students, staff, parents, and friends for coming out to support our Mustangs!
Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD). We are so thankful for our SRO, City of Charleston Police Department Officer Leslie. She plays an important role in keeping our campus safe. She assists with car riders, interacts with students and staff, and is always willing to assist others.
Thank you, Officer Leslie, for all you do for our Springfield Mustangs!

Charleston Charter School's Open House is on January 14th at 6pm. They have shared this information with us for families who may be interested in their school for a Middle School option. Attached is information about their school and an application form for their upcoming lottery on January 25th.

Our Core Essential Values for the month of January is Knowledge. It means learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do. Our teachers will each select one student that shows knowledge to be their student of the month.
Springfield Staff had an awesome time at our holiday luncheon. We love our new Springfield fleece vests. Wishing our school community a very happy holiday season and a Happy New Year. See you on January 6, 2020!
We had a great turnout for our PTA Meeting on Tuesday night. Our 3rd-grade students and our 4th and 5th-grade chorus students performed. Our families also participated in Holiday games and activities.
Students in CD and PIC have been learning about holidays around the world and reading "The Gingerbread Man." They got to build Christmas trees, gingerbread houses, and gingerbread men. Some even had to hunt for a gingerbread man that ran away from their class!
Our Kindergarten students learned about Holidays Around the World this week. Each teacher taught about a country and the students traveled to each one with their teacher's assistants. They learned about Australia, China, England, and Mexico.
The winner of the Springfield Elementary School Spelling Bee is Kieran Nock from 5-1. The runner-up is Aiden McCrery from 5-3. The other spellers that participated were Sergio Hernandez, Julius Erving, Patience McDaniel, Cori'anna Haywood, and Khamari Wine.
Kieran will move forward to compete in the CCSD Spelling Bee to be held on January 16th in the auditorium at Burke High School. We're proud of our spellers! Good luck Kieran!

Our student council will be selling hot chocolate during lunch tomorrow and Thursday. The hot chocolate is $1.00.
First Grade had an amazing time in a Snowy Day inspired workshop from the Gaillard last week and attending the Snowy Day performance at the Gaillard today! What an amazing way to round up December!
Our PBIS Edible Art party will be held on Thursday, December 19th. Volunteers that would like to assist must sign-up with their child's teacher and complete the CCSD Volunteer Application. Here is the schedule for each of the grade-levels.
We had such an awesome PTA Teacher Appreciation Breakfast this morning. Thank you to our PTA Board and all of the parents who donated items for this event!
On Veteran’s day, class 2-2 wrote to veterans thanking them for their service. Today they received a response, thanking them for their kind words!
Our cafeteria staff was in the holiday spirit passing out festive snacks during lunch today!

Students in 3-3, Mrs. Hardeman's class are starting their unit on Fractions. They completed a hands-on activity to start their fraction exploration.

Ms. Ginn and Ms. White’s kindergarten class had a special guest reader. Our principal, Mrs. Williams, read the class a story on Tuesday. The students loved it!
Students in Mrs. Linn and Mrs. Eidson's CD class had a rodeo day with pony races and lasso limbo. Yeehaw!

Yesterday we had a little furry visitor in our parking lot! The kitten has gone home with one of our Child Development families until they can find a home for it. She is doing well! Thank you to the people that helped us find it!
