Our first grade students read the book, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and celebrated with a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Feast.
Thank you to Trident United Way and Robert Half North Charleston for helping us organize our school's leveled library on Friday! They participated in Trident United Way's Day of Caring.
Yee-haw, the cowboys and cowgirls in CD-3 had a fun day at the Rodeo! Our school mustang mascot was on the loose but the students lassoed up the fun today as they read stories with Ms. Mayo by the campfire and enjoyed pony races.
Our kindergarten students enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast today. They have been studying Thanksgiving this week as well as showing gratitude!
This week Ms. Boehm and Ms. Godfrey's class celebrated the end of their tree unit. They made edible acorns and tried different types of food that had ingredients from a tree.
Students in Mrs. Fields' kindergarten class learned about gratitude this week. They shared what they are each thankful for this season!
Mrs. Hardeman’s class visited Charles Towne Landing yesterday. They experienced how the early settlers survived by trading with the Native Americans and Barbadians.
This week 4th grade has been learning about the solar system in science. Here students are taking what they learned about researching and summarizing non-fiction texts to create posters to inform their class about the different planets in the solar system.
We have school next Monday and Tuesday, November 19-20. These are two of the make-up days from Hurricane Florence.
Our Fall break is Wednesday, November 21-Friday, November 23.
The elementary schools in West Ashley are getting together to host a middle school information night for our current 5th grade students. There will be representatives from various middle schools across the district available for any questions you might have. You can learn about the different options for middle school and learn about any application processes. This flier is coming home in Wednesday folders today. We hope to see all of our 5th graders there!
We found a pet bird today at Springfield. It is being taken care of for now by a parent. Please share our post and help us find its owner!
Our kindergarten students went on their first field trip to West Farm Corn Maze today. They had a great time learning about pumpkins and animals, going through the corn maze and taking a hay ride.
This week fifth-graders in Mrs. Tartt's Science classes visited the Stem Lab to create models of their schoolyard.
Today Ms. Boehm and Ms. Godfrey's class had an apple tasting. Students tasted three different kinds of apples and picked their favorite. As you can see from some faces not everyone was a fan of the granny smith apple.

Our students of the month for August, September and October enjoyed dessert with Mrs. Williams and Mr. Pallagi today. These students were recognized by their teachers for showing the character traits: wisdom, initiative, and contentment.
The Flu shot online consent for our school is now open. The deadline to complete the online consent is Tuesday, November 6th at 11:59 pm. Our flu shot clinic will be held on Wednesday, November 14th.

Since the CD team dressed up as M&M's CD4 learned through M&M's in small groups. They sorted them and made patterns with them. Then they had a special snack themed after the book, "Spookley the Square Pumpkin.
Ident-a-kid is tomorrow. All flyers and money must be turned in for your child to have their picture taken for this.
We had Book Character day today and many of our students and teachers dressed up as their favorite characters!

Today Ms. Boehm and Ms. Godfrey's CD class cut open their class pumpkin and used their senses to investigate it.
Congratulations to our first nine weeks College of Charleston President's Award recipients. These students were chosen by their teachers for excellent academics, behavior and attendance. They each received a tee shirt and are encouraged to wear it for each nine weeks awards day!

We will have our first nine weeks Spirit Rallies this week. Students from each class will be recognized for Perfect attendance, Citizens of the month, and Fastbridge/MAP test achievements. We hope to have many families join us for these awards!

Our kindergarten teachers attended a training at the South Carolina Aquarium yesterday. They learned about the Aquarium's resources for teachers. Because of their attendance at this workshop on Saturday, the kindergarten students will now receive a free field trip to the SC Aquarium in January!
Congratulations to Nathalie and River for guessing the closest answers on the Fall Estimation stations at the PBIS Fall Festival this week. Both girls were under 25 away from the correct answers!
Today was our final day for Red Ribbon Week. Our theme was “Join the Fight Against Drugs”. Teachers and students wore camouflage gear.

We are excited to announce that our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year is Brittany Bendt! Ms. Bendt teaches third grade. Congratulations!!
Our students had a great time at the PBIS Fall Festival today. There were stations set up in the multi-purpose room. Some of the activities were pumpkin ring toss, fall estimation stations, fall photo booth, and coloring station.
Today our students wore their exercise gear for our theme "Living Drug Free is No Sweat”. Tomorrow they can wear camouflage gear. Our theme will be “Join the Fight Against Drugs”.
We will have an early dismissal on Thursday. School dismisses at 1:30pm. Please send any transportation changes in writing to your child's teacher.

Our Fifth-graders took a field trip to Patriot's Point last week. They learned a lot about their environment and history!

Book Character Day is Wednesday, October 31st. Students may dress up as their favorite book character. Flyers were sent home in the Wednesday folders. Students must turn in a completed form to their teacher letting them know which book character they will be.

Thank you to the firefighters from the Charleston Fire Department for coming to Springfield today. They taught our Kindergarten students about calling 911 for emergencies and evacuating their homes if there ever is a fire. Our students loved getting to see inside the fire truck too!
Our first grade students went on a field trip to Boone Hall Plantation Pumpkin Patch today. They had a great time learning about pumpkins.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. During this week, we focus on living a healthy lifestyle free of drugs.
