SCAVENGER HUNT, PART 2 of 2: After a morning of meetings on August 21, Charleston R-I faculty and staff enjoyed a team building scavenger hunt!

Educators were broken up into teams and given clues to landmarks all across the Charleston R-I School District. Each team took a bus and raced around to the spots like the Wyatt welcome sign, the stands at Hillhouse Park, Charles Williams Park, the basketball court near the C.F. Bowden Civic Center, Bertrand City Hall, and Anniston Park.

They finally landed at The Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe, where they enjoyed a sweet treat sponsored by Citizens Bank.

PDC leaders Laura C**n and Lenzi Householder, along with administrators, would like to thank all sponsors and participants for bringing some lighthearted fun to the beginning of our school year!

SCAVENGER HUNT, PART 1 of 2: Charleston R-I faculty and staff held their second day of PD workshops on August 21, starting with breakfast provided by Charleston United Methodist Church and morning meetings. Lunch was provided by Opaa! Food Management, followed by a team building scavenger hunt!

WELCOME BACK, TEACHERS: Charleston R-I School District held their first day of back to school workshops on August 20. Superintendent Jamarcus Williams addressed faculty and staff during an opening session at the Clara Drinkwater Newnam Auditorium.

Williams shared that almost the entire professional staff was returning from last year, which he says is a great foundation to build the school year upon. He reminded employees that they are all in the positions they are in "because somebody believes in you."

He challenged his staff to see what they are doing now as building toward what Charleston R-I Schools will be in 4-5 years down the road.

Educators also heard from Charleston Teacher Association (CTA) and Professional Development Committee (PDC), as well as building principals.

Administrators and staff would like to thank Southside Baptist Church for providing breakfast, and First State Bank & Trust for providing lunch to all Charleston R-I faculty and staff!

PARENTS: Don't forget! Online registration forms for 2026-2027 must be completed before school starts.

Families who are returning to Charleston R-I School District (who already have an account) can log into their Parent Portal and complete the "Online Registration Update" and "Documents" sections.

If you have any questions, need a Parent Portal account, or you're an incoming family, please reach out to your child's school office.

GROWTH AWARD: Charleston High School has received two awards from the PRiME Center at Saint Louis University for promoting outstanding student growth during the 2024-25 school year:

- Charleston High: English Language Arts (2024-25)
- Charleston High: English Language Arts (3-year, ending 2024-25)

According to their award committee, "these awards recognize that schools in your district are doing exceptional work promoting growth among students from high-poverty backgrounds. This is no small feat, and it speaks to the commitment and talent of the educators across your district."
