This Sunday, March 31st. Join us @the_washout from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a fundraiser benefiting Earth Heart Growers! You can help us by eating oysters or trying our Lowcountry Boil! In addition to the food, the market will be open; our EHG products, made by our students, will be available for purchase, and we will dance to the rhythm of our very own @wellchargedband “Well Charged is a reggae, rocksteady, and ska band based out of Charleston SC. The band was formed over a shared love for vintage reggae, rocksteady, and ska music. With over 50 years combined experience performing Jamaican rhythms, their style is a faithful nod to the early pioneers of Caribbean music - Alton Ellis, Desmond Dekker, and Prince Buster, to name a few. Well Charged's core instrumentation includes bass, drums, keyboards, and guitar. Founding members John Picard (drums) and Vasily Punsalan (bass) began their journey as a duo, backing John Brown's Body's Kevin Kinsella over a decade ago. Their time spent traveling and performing, including a stint in Jamaica, created a wealth of experience, echoed in the nuance of their performance. Upon returning to the Lowcountry, Picard met David Hillis (keys) after noticing some patches sewn to his jacket. The group invited Andrew Link Krepelka (guitar, vocals), a longtime ska reggae musician, shortly thereafter, and lead singer Megg Howe from NYC (Rude Boy George, Across The Aisle) in 2018. The band released their debut EP in October 2018. The 4 song record was tracked by Carl Blackmon (Signal Fire) at Lift Up Records in Wilmington, NC and mixed and mastered by ska revivalist Jayson Nugent (The Slackers) in New York City. Featured on the release, Well Charged is frequently accompanied by a horn section, percussionist, and guest vocalists. @the_washout @lesdameschs @hurseyschool @montessorichildrenscommunity @friendsofjamessimons @rhythmmoves @ellirichter @stillsoulstudio @josephfieldsfarm @funreva #charlestonsc #charlestonlife #follybeach #follybeachsc #folly #westashleysc #downtowncharleston
A friend of mine published this memory of the children... William Wordsworth penned famous poem about Daffodils. I WANDER’D lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretch’d in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed — and gazed — but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. The Daffodils By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

Well, this is hard. My kids are done with Montessori Community School in the physical sense. However, MCS and it's teachers will be there in our spirits and psyche forEVER. I just asked Shane if he misses his teachers.. he said, "oh yes... they were my family away from home." Then he proceeded to name every teacher and class he had and what they mean to him. This is all going on while he's cooking Greek Lemon Chicken Thighs and Potatoes. His summer job ended up being a "home chef" for his grandmother who absolutely prefers to NOT cook and is happy to have him every night over there cooking... she pays pretty well, too. He has a job. She has some help. I'm loving it all. I love you MCS. Kim, Robin D, Robin P, Mimi, Julie, Mary Elise, Heather, Mike, Sean M., Arlene, Pamela.... NURSE MAGGIE!!!! You guys are making the world a better place. Any one I've not mentioned here just know that your are loved and appreciated, too.
Is there a Fact & Fee Day this year, or do we just pay our fees online? Thanks!
Are there any children from MCS in involved with SMAART or SAIL programs this summer? I'm wondering about transportation your kids may be taking to these programs? Are children riding the buses provided or are caepools being set up? We could do either, but I'd like to know that my child has a friend on the bus if she's going to ride. Please let me know how your child will get to SMAART or SAIL. If its by bus, please let me know what bus or if you'd be interested in carpooling. Thanks!

[08/14/18]   Hey everybody! A note from Mrs Kim:

We had a great turn out for Fact and Fee yesterday but we still have many of you to see today. Please come by to get your child's folder and complete a couple of forms that are essential for us to have by the first day of school!

Check out these photos from Days 2 and 3 of Teacher Appreciation Week. Our goal is to keep the bellies of these amazing educators full and happy! Sticky Fingers lunch on Tuesday (with leftovers on Wednesday) and fancy desserts from Gala this afternoon. Yum-o!

Day 1 of Teacher Appreciation and we're off to a tasty and healthy start. Teachers enjoyed healthful snacks and received cute gifts in their mailboxes.

This video is on point for our Week. Teachers be encouraged ... your students are truly paying attention to you!

Teacher Appreciation Week is upon us and this week we celebrate the teachers who illuminate the world to our kids! Take time this week to acknowledge your appreciation for all they do. Help your child create a handwritten note or card, bring your teachers a flower or a hand made gift or take time to stop by and offer your teachers an encouraging word. Your teachers will appreciate your and your child's efforts and will know that you care!
Share your photos of your child's creations and we'll be sure everyone sees. The PTA will be posting photos of the ways we've pampered teachers all week.

There's still time to donate to this project. Let's help Mrs. Allison G raise the funds needed for these exciting learning materials!

Many of our MCS teachers are pursuing opportunities for you to support our school through Donors Choose. If you aren't already familiar with it, this a wonderful program for public school teachers to make requests for relatively small grants for specific projects or materials. What an honor! Many thanks WCBD News 2. They were so kind and made us feel very comfortable to be able to share with the community what we do. Also, special thanks to all our sponsors. MCS graduate and current WAHS sophomore, Shekinah Moore, and her family lost their home to a devastating fire last weekend. Shekinah's mother, Michele Moore, is a past co-President of the MCS PTA

As far as what they need, they don't YET need much in terms of "household items" as they are in a hotel... However, if you are local, HOME COOKED MEALS are currently top on the list for immediate needs. Both Michele and her husband Arthur have health challenges, and Shekinah is an athlete--eating all meals at the hotel or in convenience restaurants until they are settled in a temporary home is certainly not optimal for their health. If you want to arrange a real meal for them (4 family members), please contact me and I will coordinate. You may PM me here or text me at (843) 324-5736

This GoFundMe campaign was set up by Michele's friend and neighbor Becky. Please donate whatever you are able and share within your networks.

Thank you, friends, for your care and compassion. We're all in this together.

Does anyone use the bus from South Windermere??? The sheet says it meets at earthfare... But I'm trying to figure out exactly where it picks up from?? A bunch of buses pick up behind there by 3 little birds cafe..

I hope this is allowed but I am desperately looking for someone for my son to carpool with in the afternoons. My work schedule changes in August 20 and I just found this out. We live in Sabal Palms on Glenn McConnell. It would be around 3-4 days a week I would need someone. Please let me know if this would be possible for someone as I am desperate.
