I hope it's alright for an alum to pose a quick question. First congratulations on the fine work you all do in keeping the group going and doing great work to bring history to life. Also, congratulations on the two page photo spread in the most recent alumni magazine. It looks great! My question, however, is this; the photo caption said the reenactment club began in 1997. Which makes me wonder why that date is used as the club's founding. Was this a typo? The Citadel's reenactment club was started some time before I got there in the fall of 1990 and was still going strong when I graduated in 1994. COL Speicher (Army ROTC, Special Forces, and ACW reenactor since the 1960s) was the TAC for the club the whole time I was there and I could reach out to him to see if he recalls when the group started, if that would be helpful at all. I don't mean to cause any drama, but just knowing history is near and dear to all of our hearts I just wanted to ask if I can help clear things up if this 97 date isn't entirely on point.
I’m an 02 grad in Columbia and I am looking for a civil war reenactor to pose for a sculpture I am working on. I’m willing to pay $50/hr to take some photos in a historically accurate uniform.
A picture of my dad John K. Carr from the class that never was. He was from Charelstown Ma. and was Captain of the Citadel boxing team. Found this picture in an old box in my mother's house after she passed away this year. The picture was from July 2nd 1943
My dad is on the left I don't know the name of the young man on the right. My dad ied in 1988

The Citadel Military Living History Society Takes on the role of reenactment to honor history. Our C veterans in combat.

The Citadel Military Living History Society, also known as the Reenactment Club, focuses on honoring the sacrifices made by Citadel alumni and all U.S. We wish to educate the public about the battles, uniforms, weaponry, and even just the daily life of soldiers through our reenactments. While we have fun at our events, the mission of the club for cadets goes much deeper. We train every cadet to be

There were over 1000 pictures taken at the Columns or "The Battle of Florence." It will take some time to get them all up and edited, so in the meantime, enjoy this "teaser" trailer of pictures from the event!

The cadets had a blast playing 1860's baseball, as well as educating a local Boy Scout troop on the proper way to move and fire a cannon.

Captain Cox and Senior Haley Osmer, playing the "Captain's Daughter" went down the spectator line before the battle, welcoming and talking to every guest. As well as posing for lots of pictures with some of the younger guests!

On the weekend of January 29-31, The Citadel Military Living History Society participated in the Battle of Charleston, timeline of wars that the United States had engaged in.

This year, for the second time, the club brought cadets to participate in two events: Civil War and World War II.

The Civil War battle that was being reenacted was the Battle of Bloody Bridge. On July 2nd, 1864, Union Brigadier General John Hatch landed on John's Island. His plan was to move forward and take James Island. His 8,000 men were met with 2,000 South Carolinian forces. The Confederacy held off the troops for 3 days until General Hatch and his men retreated.

While there was no specific engagement being recreated for the public WWII battle, here are a few words on it from a 2015 alumnus, Mike Santana

The Citadel Military Living History Society's (CMLHS) WWII contingent, "Dog Company," recreating one of thousands of nameless skirmishes on the Italian Front in the winter of '45. The CMLHS's mission of portraying and honoring all alumni who have gone on to serve our nation in her hour of need is upheld by cadets like these. Cadets who's greatest passion is ensuring their forbears on the Long Grey Line are never forgotten.

We have these amazing pictures from the Battle of Aiken 2015 thanks to our club photographers.
Thanks to Tripp Karitis for taking the photos and Haley Osmer for the editing.
We would be nothing without our club's seniors.

Cadets Tripp Karitis, Haley Osmer, Meriel Robinson, Rivers Crouse, Thomas Riherd, Tjark Aldeborgh, Kenneth Woodruff, Kyle Lewis, Landon Rohrer, and Weston Matthews have retrieved the sword from the Canadian Army. It is on its way back to The Citadel.

The lost sword of the first honor graduate, Col. Charles C. Tew, has officially been returned to the hands of The Citadel.

09/16/2015

The cadets arrived at the Antietam battlefield around 0930 and after a quick tour of the Museum, met up with the color guard the Canadian Army sent and began to practice for the ceremony at 1300.

Today marks the 153rd anniversary of The Battle of Antietam and cadets are preparing to repatriate the lost sword of Col. Charles C. Tew, the Citadel’s first honor graduate.

09/09/2015

In less than a week, a group of Citadel cadets from our very own CMLHS will be heading up to Antietam to receive the sword of the first Citadel's graduate, Col. Charles C. Tew.

We are very excited to be invited to be part of the ceremony that brings this piece of history home.

We will be keeping constant updates on our progress from our practices, drills, traveling, all the way to the actual ceremony from now until we return home next Thursday.

Are you a cadet who does reenacting outside of the Living History Society during the summer? Post pictures of yourself here! Show what knowledge and expertise you're bringing back to the Citadel once school starts up next year!

One of our members upon graduation was the recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan award for volunteer work and community outreach. Of important note was the spearheading of the creation of the wwii section of the living history society. It goes to show just how high our members can climb, and just how important our mission of preserving the history of the Citadel is to so many.
To all of the members who graduated this year, congratulations! To the rest, best of luck in the years ahead!
