Healthcare Simulation Week

Our Simulation Center Director, Sarah Screws, gives our students a tour of the simulation room when they arrive for the day. Practicing with each of these items helps our students gain confidence when they enter the nursing profession. Thank you to our simulation team for making simulation lifelike in a safe environment!

Photos from Trident Technical College Nursing's post 09/14/2022

Our students have simulation experiences throughout the nursing program. Our students in the fundamentals course (NUR102) learned how to change linens and gowns this week. Meanwhile, our students in the leadership course (NUR210) learned how to prioritize during a mass casualty incident and care for a septic patient.

Simulation experiences allow students to stop, critically think, and ask questions. Thank you to our simulation team for setting up these scenarios each and every day!

This is the team that makes all the magic happen in the nursing simulation labs! (L-R) Mike Steinberg, Barbara Snow, Sarah Screws, and Kevin Belt. Thank you all for your hard work creating lifelike scenarios for our students to learn in a safe environment!

Happy Simulation Week! TTC Nursing is very proud of our simulation center and our simulation staff!

Our Simulation Director, Sarah Screws, won the Melanie Cason Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the South Carolina Nursing Education Simulation Alliance. As an inaugural member, she aided in planning and executing the first SCNESA Conference in 2018; Served on the Education Committee, and she is the current Education Committee Chair. Sarah, you are AMAZING and we are so excited about the improvements you are implementing in our sim center!

Mike Steinberg has been our Nursing Simulation Lab Technician since 2018. He is our “go to guy” for any technology issues and is quick to help! Kevin Belt, Elizabeth Ard, and Matt Hendrickson have also been cross trained to help when technical problems arise!

Barbara Snow joined us in March 2022 as a Nursing Simulation Lab Assistant. She quickly jumped in to help set up for each courses simulation. She is detail oriented and always has a smile on her face!

Our simulation center has also grown over the past year! We have expanded to the 3rd floor where we added four simulation bays. We also purchased 8 new simulation mannequins that are even more lifelike! They even blink their eyes! We also upgraded our task trainers to assist students in learning how to care for tracheostomies, start IV’s, perform I&O catheters, complete injections, EKG’s, SCD’s, defibrillators, and fetal monitors!

All of this allows our students to have a more realistic experience in a safe environment. Happy simulation week!

This week is National Su***de Prevention Week. Did you know that su***de is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-34 and the 10th leading cause of death overall in the U.S.?

This Friday (9/9) at noon, wear teal and/or purple and join us on the TTC Su***de Prevention Walk. The walk will begin at the Wellness Center (Bldg. 950) on Thornley Campus.

Happy Labor Day to all of our nurse heros! The impact you make daily makes this world a better place. Thank you for all that you do!

Fetter Health Care Network and SC DHEC will hold a free public COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Thornley Campus, Tuesday, April 13, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The clinic will be held in the College Center in Bldg. 920.

The SC DHEC-administered vaccinations are by appointment only. The Fetter-administered vaccinations are only for walk-ins. All South Carolina residents age 18 and older are eligible to receive a COVID vaccination through this clinic. Both DHEC and Fetter will administer the Moderna vaccine. Second-dose vaccinations will be available on campus on May 10.

The college is hosting the event as a public service and to provide a convenient location for students and employees to receive a vaccination. Appointments can be scheduled on the SC DHEC website (look for DHEC @ Trident Technical College to check on appointment availability) or by calling DHEC’s vaccination information line at 1-866-365-8110. Both walk-ins and those with scheduled appointments should bring a valid picture ID and insurance card, if applicable.

Please be aware there may be heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic on Thornley Campus that day. Public Safety, with help from the S.C. National Guard, will be directing traffic to help with the movement of vehicles on campus. Parking and check-in for the DHEC clinic will be in parking lot J (lot behind Building 700/800). Parking and check-in for the Fetter walk-in clinic will be in parking lots C, E and F (lots between Building 920 and Mabeline Road). After checking in, all visitors seeking vaccination will enter Building 920 at the front entrance facing Rivers Ave. Students and employees going to classrooms and offices in Building 920 should use the Relish Restaurant entrance. All other exterior doors on the building will be locked from the outside, but exiting will still be possible.
