Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we are ready to start this season of expressing our gratitude! The TTC Nursing Division is so thankful for each and every student that chose the profession of nursing as their career path. Your kindness, empathy, and compassion for your patients is evident by the way you deliver care. Thank you! Tag the people below that you are thankful for!

Our SNA students set up a trunk-or-treat display and won best trunk! Happy Halloween! 🎃

Students in NUR104 were introduced to some of the challenges that older adults face on a daily basis. Students wore goggles to impair their vision, taped their knuckles to simulate arthritic joints, and put in ear plugs to simulate hearing loss. The students were paired up with a student caregiver that talked them through a few tasks. We hope these activities give our students a new perspective on aging and empathy when caring for our elderly patients!

Thank you to our Student Nurses Association for being such amazing representatives of Trident Technical College while serving our community!

Happy LAST first day to our senior NUR 219 students!

Happy Boss's Day to all of the nursing leadership at Trident Technical College!

"The true value of a leader is not measured by the work they do. A leader's true value is measured by the work they inspire others to do." - Simon Sinek

Thank you for inspiring us to creatively teach the next generation of nurses! Your leadership energizes us each and every semester to deliver quality nursing education to our students!

Many thanks to Marianne Weinstein, the director of our TTC Wellness Center, for coming over to help our NUR 210 students have a successful start to their final exam! Ms. Weinstein led the group in some deep breathing and muscle relaxation techniques to ease some pre-test anxiety. Sometimes we forget that not only are we helping manage our patients’ mental health, but that our own should be a priority, too. Thank you, Ms. Weinstein!

For anyone that didn’t know, as current students, you have full access to the Wellness Center and can even enroll in classes there. Consider meeting your study group over there to “walk it out while you talk it out” and study while on the treadmill!

Healthcare Simulation Week would not be complete without thanking our simulation team! This team is responsible for setting up, tearing down, cleaning up, restocking, repairing, ordering supplies, designing simulations, and the technical side of simulation. Thank you all for everything you do! Our students are able to apply their critical thinking skills in a safe environment thanks to you!

Happy National Sisters Day! Today we are celebrating a pair of sisters that graduated from the TTC Nursing program and have excelled in their career! Shereece Kerr, MSN, AGAC-NP (pictured right) and Shemika Champion MSN, CPNP-AC, CPN (pictured left). They both started their nursing education at Trident Technical College and continued their education to become nurse practitioners!

Shereece is a nurse practitioner that has been working at Doctors Care Summerville and recently accepted a position on the Cardiothoracic Surgery Team at MUSC. Shemika is the Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with MUSC Child Abuse Pediatrics with MUSC Children’s Health. Shereece would like to encourage our students to "Strive to be uncomfortable. Don’t become stagnant in your mindset, nor in your career. Change is progress so don’t get too comfortable with how things may have been. Study, research, and be willing to learn then apply to everything."

Shemika said "My sister and I, live by the saying “Why not”? Meaning, if I believe I can do it, what reason can there be to stop me from going for it. We leave the excuses behind and go for our dreams." There is no better support system than the love of a sister! Congratulations to you both on pursuing your dreams and being an amazing example for our students!

Susan Weimer, MSN, RNC-OB is another example of a TTC grad making BIG waves in nursing! She is the Director Hospital Operations, Patient Services Administration for Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue Hawai’i. Susan is a 2004 graduate of the Trident Technical College Nursing program. She continued her education at Western Governors University where she earned her BSN and MSN in 2013.

Susan said that "Nursing involves lifelong learning and it is a profession where you can do as much or as little as you want. Many doors will open and you have the ability to help many people and have a positive impact on many patients, their families, and the community. I have lived in three different states as a practicing nurse. How many careers allow you to do that? As a student, work hard, study hard and trust what your instructors tell you. Stay current in your practice and share your knowledge and love of nursing with others."

Thank you for sharing your story with us! We are so proud of you and the accomplishments you have had in your career!

On this special day, as we celebrate the birth of a nation, it's also worth reflecting on the remarkable contributions of individuals like Florence Nightingale and the invaluable role of nurses. Just as the fireworks illuminate the night sky, Florence Nightingale illuminated the world of nursing with her compassion, dedication, and pioneering efforts. Known as the "Lady with the Lamp," she revolutionized the nursing profession, transforming it into a noble and respected calling. The spirit of Florence Nightingale lives on in the countless nurses who continue to provide care, comfort, and healing to patients worldwide. As we gather with family and friends to mark this joyous occasion, let's take a moment to appreciate the unwavering commitment and selflessness of nurses, who embody the spirit of freedom and compassion in their tireless efforts to heal and uplift humanity.

Sometimes we make the decision in our youth that we do not want to follow in our parents footsteps to become a nurse. Eventually, we come to realize that we were born to be a nurse! Chenequa is a great example of this!

Chenequa has many MANY family members that are nurses, but she initially chose another path. She graduated from South Carolina State University with her bachelors in biology and then completed her masters degree in health service administration at Strayer University in 2013. She did not feel fulfilled in this career and realized that she wanted to be a nurse! She completed her ADN at TTC in 2021 and is currently working on her BSN at USC Upstate with an expected graduation date of May 2024. She has been working on the MUSC inpatient GI unit on ART 6E since graduation and recently accepted a position as Relief Staff leader (i.e. charge nurse)! Her favorite quote is "Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence." Author Unknown. Congratulations on your continued success Chenequa!

"Attending TTC allowed me to find independence and confidence in myself. I was a single mom of three kids when I went through and graduated from this program and had just gone through an extremely difficult and contentious divorce. The person I discovered as I persevered through the challenging program is someone I am so proud to be today."
