The Outstanding Student Award recognizes students who have distinguished themselves among their peers. The criteria include academic performance (these recipients have a 3.85-4.0 GPA), leadership and excellence in personal/professional endeavors. ✨

Mariam volunteers at Charleston Animal Society, tutors, and is a member of many honors organizations. She is proud of her study abroad volunteer work in Palestine where she tutored and mentored young children. Mariam plans to pursue a career that helps underrepresented groups navigate the structural hurdles that limit them.

Haley is a COMM protégé, Cisternyard Media photographer, and part of Hillel’s Holocaust Educational Awareness and Rememberance committee where she filmed the promotional video for the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Haley will continue her internship with Red Edge on their video production team after graduation.

Sierra double majors with Arts Management. She served as President of Charleston Vibes, a College of Charleston - School of the Arts intern, and studied abroad twice. Sierra will soon move to NY and plans to work in PR and entertainment.

McLean has minors in Political Science and Music. She served as a Peer Facilitator, Panhellenic Delegate for Kappa Delta, held leadership roles in Kappa Delta, and Vice President of the South Carolina Politics Club. McLean plans to get a Master’s in Journalism.

Megan worked as a Fellow in Joe Cunningham’s office, interned with Pet Helpers, a Spanish tutor, and a transfer student mentor. She is a Martin Scholar, Lindner Family Scholarship recipient, and Stage Manager for the Clemente Program, a non-profit theatre program benefiting the homeless. Megan plans to work in PR.

Celie double majors with Marketing. She served as a Charleston 40 guide, College of Charleston Bully Pulpit Series team member, Charleston Food and Wine Fellow, Martin Scholar, Co-Founder of Phi Chi Theta, College of Charleston Honors College member, and campus RA. She started a small jewelry business and volunteers for Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby. Celie will spend next year working as an English teacher in South Korea.

Katherine double majors with Business Administration. She tutored in the Speaking Lab at College of Charleston Center for Student Learning, and volunteered for The Purple Tutu (an organization that works with people with Downs Syndrome) and Love Your Melon. She is proud of her capstone research on intrafamilial communication techniques and their impact on the communicative tendencies of their offspring. She plans to work in marketing or real estate, and has started her own Biscuit blog.

Ms. Richie has served as a Copywriter at Annapolis Performance Sailing as well as a Digital Producer to 𝑅𝑜𝑎𝑑𝑠 & 𝐾𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑑𝑜𝑚𝑠 and Anthony Bourdain’s 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑠 𝑈𝑛𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑛. She is currently pursuing a PhD in media studies focusing on comparative food media at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Ms. Richie also holds an MFA in non-fiction writing from Sewanee: The University of the South. While at the College, Ms. Richie majored in communication and worked at the Writing Lab in the College of Charleston Center for Student Learning. Cabin Books is releasing Ms. Richie’s FULL: A Slim Volume on Southern Foodways at the end of May. Her book calls on personal anecdotes as well as scholarly research and journalism to address food culture and media of the American South. Supplemental Instruction (SI): The CSL offers supplemental instruction for classes with high fail rates.
