On Thursday October 1, we held our first Open House for the 2027-2028 enrollment year. We enjoyed getting to meet prospective families and sharing the mission God has entrusted to us at St. Philip’s Academy. Our scholars even got to show off just some of what they have learned with a selection of recitations.

If you have a rising K to 6th grader, and are interested in learning more about Classical Christian education, we’d love to welcome you to come and see our school in action and meet our faculty.

A little autumn reading, a beautiful story, and the joy of learning together.

This past week, our Kindergarten scholars enjoyed reading Pumpkin Moonshine by Tasha Tudor, a timeless tale that invites children to delight in the beauty and wonder of the season.

Even the simplest moments of childhood are opportunities to cultivate wonder, attentiveness, imagination, and gratitude for the goodness of God’s creation, even if we might not always enjoy the smell.

We give thanks to God for our Securitas team!

With a combined background in local and federal law enforcement and military service, these men bring wisdom, courage, discipline, and a deep sense of duty to the work entrusted to them.

We praise God for their faithful stewardship and their commitment to protecting our scholars and cultivating a school community where they can pursue truth, goodness, and beauty in peace and safety.

We are grateful for their service and for the example they set through courage, vigilance, and sacrificial care for others.

On Thursday we held our first annual House Sorting Banquet where all our faculty and scholars were sorted into four houses, each named for one of the four cardinal virtues (in their Latin names of course):

Prudentia — Prudence
Temperantia — Temperance
Iustitia — Justice
Fortitudo — Fortitude

These virtues are more than names on a house banner. They remind our scholars that education is more than just academics, but learning to think wisely, work towards self-mastery, act justly, and stand courageously for what is good.

Through friendly competition, service, fellowship, and leadership across grade levels, our houses give scholars the opportunity to practice these virtues in community.

May the houses of Prudentia, Temperantia, Iustitia, and Fortitudo inspire each St. Philip’s Academy Gryphon to pursue wisdom, goodness, and virtue in all they do!

Six weeks into the school year, and we are already seeing the beautiful fruit of community taking root.

One of the great gifts of a classical Christian education is the opportunity for scholars to learn and grow alongside one another, not only within their own classrooms, but across grade levels.

Older scholars have the joy of encouraging and leading younger ones, while younger scholars look up to those who have gone before them. Friendships are forming, kindness is being practiced, and a true sense of belonging is growing.

We pray these friendships will be more than just memories from school days, but relationships shaped by a shared love of truth, goodness, and beauty, and ultimately, love for Christ and one another.

A classroom is more than a place where lessons take place, it is a place where souls are formed.

At St. Philip’s Academy, even the arrangement of the classroom reflects our philosophy of education. Order, beauty, and intentionality communicate that learning is worthy of our attention and that truth, goodness, and beauty are worth pursuing.

That philosophy extends to how our scholars learn. We intentionally value the simple, time-tested tools of pencil and paper. Writing by hand slows us down, cultivates attentiveness, strengthens the connection between the hand and the mind, and encourages scholars to engage deeply with what they are learning.

From carefully arranged desks to books on the shelves, beautiful artwork on the walls, and a pencil and paper in hand, every element of the classroom is thoughtfully chosen to cultivate wonder, discipline, attentiveness, and a love for learning.

Our 3rd to 5th grade scholars had PE Benchmarking today, surrounded by the harbor, palmetto trees, and the Pineapple Fountain.

Our Iliad Athletics Benchmarking gives our scholars an opportunity to measure their growth, set meaningful goals, and learn the value of perseverance and disciplined effort. PE is not just a class, but another avenue for teaching lessons that extend far beyond the field: humility in success, courage in difficulty, faithfulness in practice, and gratitude for the abilities God has given us.

The goal is not simply to build strength or better athletes, but to help form young men and women who pursue excellence for the glory of God.

Our enrolled families are cordially invited to our first annual House Sorting Banquet on Thursday, September 17 at 5:30 pm in The Great Hall.

At St. Philip's Academy, education is more than academics, it's the shaping of the whole child. At our House Sorting Banquet, you will hear more about how we synthesize features from British schools, Greco-Roman culture, and Christian tradition in order to instill character, community, and competition into the hearts of our scholars by means of a house system.

You will also learn more about the four unique houses at the Academy, including which families and teachers belong to each house. We are excited to kick-off what is sure to become a much anticipated tradition where we welcome and celebrate new families each year into our community.
