The Bookfair is coming! It's a magical time of year. We are excited to set up The Bookfair Thursday and open it to our student from this Friday, 2/11 through noon on Friday, 2/18. We are excited to use Bedford Falls as our company. They are a small family owned company from Raleigh and have a number of great book selections from a variety of publishing houses. We are also able to offer a cool option for families to avoid sending in cash, check or card with their students. If you set up an account, you can give your child a preauthorized spending limit that drafts from your desired account without any exchange of money for your child. The link will walk you through the process. If you have questions, don't hesitate to call or email Ms. Rosie. 843-724-7763

As a Montessori parent, the time management component has been most important and meaningful to my children, especially as they entered high school. Love that our adolescent team came up with this! ♥️

Montessori moment-Ms Rachael’s class investigated the timeline of life. Each child was then responsible for animal research as well as the making of it (with playdoh). Students then coded facts in Scratch & attached a makey makey. During a gallery walk through visitors needed to touch the interactive animals to hear the facts. STEAM meets Montessori! Fabulous and SO MANY SKILLS from this lesson.

Congratulations to this week's, "Unsung Educator of the Week",
(Vilaphonh) Phillip Sisombath, James Simons Montessori School

--

"Mr. Phillip" joined the James Simons community during the 2021-2022 school year, and our students and staff have been the beneficiaries. Officially serving as a Teacher Assistant in a Lower Elementary classroom, Mr. Phillip shares his calm energy to all of the students who he encounters. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and is a true team player.

Mr. Phillip understands that relationships are the foundation to success and he takes the time to get to know the students. His sense of humor and caring smile let everyone know that he is someone to be trusted. Whether it is when he is greeting students in the cafeteria or taking a walk with a friend who may be having a tough day, Mr. Phillip continuously exemplifies the power of kindness. Additionally Mr. Phillip helps elevate his student’s potential by truly listening to them and learning about their lives and encouraging them to share their gifts, even if they are not yet able to see those gifts. He is a true visionary and a natural Montessorian who sees the good in everyone, even if, and especially if, they don’t see that good in themselves.

During the 21-22 school year as students were rehabilitating to full time school after a year and a half of virtual instruction and a myriad of other learning obstacles that the Covid19 Pandemic brought, Mr. Phillip served as a rock in our community. His stability and consistency was something that students and staff alike learned to rely on.

As this new school year begins, we are once again blessed to be in the presence of such an enlightened educator and positive person who reminds us what really matters in life and school. We love and appreciate you Mr. Phillip! --nominated by a colleague

Our week is ending with the NA 🗺 map. 😢 MS created scavenger hunt card works for UE. UE created landform cards for primary and LE discovered map features and created their own islands after studying the map with their own key and compass. 😅 So much fun packed into this week of map study. We can’t wait to get the next one!

Girls on the Run registration closes August the 26th at noon!

At Girls on the Run, we believe that social-emotional growth, as well as in-person connections, should remain consistent throughout young people’s lives. Our program ensures girls’ inner strength, confidence and relationship skills remain strong, no matter their environment.

Since 1996, our program has inspired participants to:
-Appreciate, love and respect what makes them unique
-Set actionable goals that they can complete by the end of the season
-Develop new habits and activities that create a healthier lifestyle

Unlike other clubs or organized sports, Girls on the Run focuses on the whole girl – inside and out. Our group of highly trained coaches are there from start to finish, reminding our participants that anything is possible and that no goal is too far-fetched. Every girl deserves to hear this reassurance.

To learn more about Girls on the Run, please visit www.gotrcoastalsouthcarolina.org. We look forward to seeing you soon!

With gratitude,
Coach Rosie, Stacie and Jen

Good afternoon, James Simons Family. This is Beth Dillenkoffer, your interim principal. First of all, I apologize for being so quiet this summer, but the Blackboard communication system was down until a couple weeks ago and I just completed my training to use it yesterday. I'm excited to be able to speak with you!

I hope you have enjoyed your summer and done lots of reading. The school building is quiet without you and we're working hard to get things ready for the first day of school.

As a reminder, the first day of school for 4-year-olds and up is Wednesday, August 17th. Three-year-olds will begin Monday, August 22nd. Students can arrive on campus between 7:20 - 7:40 am. Three-year-olds will dismiss at 11:00 am.

All students and families are invited to attend our Fact and Fee night, held Tuesday, August 16th. Feel free to visit the school between 3:30 - 5:30 pm on the 16th to drop off school supplies, pay your magnet fee, and complete online registration (if you haven't done so already). For those of you who haven't completed registration, you will be receiving additional information shortly on this process.

Parents and students, expect to hear from your teacher in the next couple of weeks about specific information regarding your homeroom. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach out at the school.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon!

We are so proud of Ms. Stooks and Marshall representing James Simons. Congratulations to you both. 💕

Congratulation to this month's Educator of the Month for April, Millissa Stooks and the Student of the Month for April, Marshall Chase both of whom joined us this week to be recognized by our club. Ms. Stooks was accompanied by her fiancé and was chosen by James Simons because she is a strong and steady advocate for the primary team at James Simons Elementary. Her peaceful demeanor creates a harmonious and productive environment in her classroom and she is always willing to help team members or provide calm space for another student to work. Marshall was joined by his parents and his grandmother. Marshall is a Kindergarten student in Ms. Daniels’ class and takes his job as teacher’s assistant very seriously, going above and beyond every day. Perhaps he’ll be working in the healthcare field someday, because when there a substitute teacher had a chair collapse under her, he insisted she go to the school nurse and escorted her to and from the nurse’s office. These were certainly wonderful honorees to end our project for this year and get us primed for school year 2021-2022!
