I have a rather odd amalgamation of goals for my time abroad. I want to join the crew team here, there is a specific museum in the city of Belfast that I want to visit, and I want to pick one country within Europe to visit (other than the British Isles) at some point while I’m here. I want to take a trip. Beyond those goals, I mostly want to get better at stepping out of my comfort zone by doing things that sound interesting without waiting for other people to say they're doing them first. - Michelle Taylor

My first few weeks at Kansai Gaidai flew by! Immediately after I arrived, I met up with some other CofC students, some students from other universities, and Japanese students, and went on a day trip to Osaka. We went to Osaka Castle, a maid cafe that received extremely high praise from one of my friends, and ate a bunch of good food. I was surprised that I was already making many new friends, and I was able to get a lot of Japanese speaking practice. I feel like I have been learning just as much Japanese outside of class as I have in class. - Jackson Bass

Happy Hanukkah from the Center for International Education!

I’ve been learning a little bit of the Italian language. I’ve picked up on a few words and phrases, and I’m getting better every day! I’ve noticed that most Italians are fluent in English, which is nice, but I do still try and make an effort to speak in Italian whenever I can. Overall, this first month in Italy has been amazing and I can’t wait to see what the rest of this trip has in store for me! - Chase Lee

Interested in postgraduate education abroad? University of Stirling in Scotland is hosting an information session on Thursday, December 7th at 11:00am EST.

One of my favorite parts about attending class at La Rochelle Université is the fact that I am in class with international students who are also learning and improving their french speaking, reading, and writing skills. My fellow classmates are of different ages and are from all over the world. There are students from Ukraine, the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, Poland, Brazil, among others. I have always loved getting to know new people, so I have really enjoyed talking to many of the other students and asking them questions about themselves and their homes. - Eva Tryon

This past weekend our university hosted a sports festival called Yui Cup, which was a competition between all the floors in the Yui international dorm. Sports days at schools in Japan are a very common competition to raise morale and bring the school closer together. Kansai Gaidai's sports day consisted of dodgeball, scavenger hunt, ball toss, and a relay race. I had a lot of fun competing with my dorm members from floor two and I'm very glad I got to experience something most Japanese people experience at some point while growing up. - Aidan Stout

One of my favorite shrines that I have visited is the Itsukushima Shrine. We took the train to where the ferries were docked because the shrine was on an island. The ferry offered a stunning view of the mountains and the clear blue water. Once we got to the island, We went straight to the Torri gate which stands in the water. It was absolutely gorgeous! - Salina Saini
