Lane Kenan is working in Dr. Michael Giuliano’s lab to develop small peptide models of hydrophobic collapse, one of the critical initial components of protein folding that is often challenging to observe directly. These models will help better understand a fundamental stage of protein folding and inform the design of peptides that activate cell-surface receptors. She is studying these model peptides using two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Lane is pictured here purifying peptides using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Her work was supported by SSM/SC-INBRE funds and an SC-INBRE grant to Dr. Giuliano.

The Honor Board is a student-led organization that coordinates hearings to determine whether students are responsible for infractions of the codes outlined in the Student Handbook. This includes honor code violations like cheating and plagiarism and code of conduct violations such as alcohol and drug use. Our conduct process allows students to tell their side of the story to a Board or Panel composed of employees and students who then make a decision about where the responsibility lies and any consequences that follow. As members of the Board, we are trained in active listening and open-questioning techniques to elicit as much information as possible from the student and others to make an informed decision about how we should proceed in a manner that best benefits the student and the institution.
We are excited to welcome our newest Class of 2025 members to the College of Charleston!
