Standing Table Sundays are back aboard the R/V Robert Gray. Roasted oysters piled on the table, cold drinks, ocean breeze, and a 1936 research ship as the backdrop.

No reservations stress, no dress code. Grab a knife and a spot at the table.

Thursday nights, the captain sets a table on deck.

R/V ROBERT GRAY was built in 1936 as a research vessel, charted the Columbia River and served in World War II. Now she’s docked in Charleston, and a few nights a month she hosts supper.

Here’s how the evening goes: board at 6:30, tour the ship with the crew as the sun drops over the harbor, then sit down to three courses with the captain. You’ll sit with whoever else booked that night. By dessert, the table is usually talking like old friends.

Charleston’s most unique Sunday Event.
Standing Table Sundays: a Lowcountry boil aboard R/V ROBERT GRAY, a 1936 research vessel tied up at the Maritime Center. Shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes — cooked on the upper deck by Steampot Social and served straight out of the pot.
One table, open from 4 to 8. Sit, stand, come at four or come at seven — there’s no seating time and no program. You’ll end up eating next to people you haven’t met, which is the whole idea.
$60 · BYOB · 21+ · we stay tied up, ashore before dark

Sundays we do it the other way. No seating chart, no courses, no tablecloth — one long standing table on the working deck of R/V ROBERT GRAY, a Lowcountry boil straight out of the galley, and you eat with your hands.
She’s a 1936 hydrographic survey vessel. Most of the year she’s offshore. Sunday nights this fall she’s tied up at the Maritime Center and the pot’s on.

The coolest dinner in Charleston isn’t in a dining room.

R/V ROBERT GRAY is a 1936 survey vessel on the National Register. Most of the year she’s offshore. A few nights a month she stays tied up and we set one long table on her deck.

Supper Club — reserve a seat. Three courses cooked aboard by Chef Grace. August 20 and September 3. Limited seats.

Private evenings — take the whole deck. Up to 70, your date, your menu: low country boil or plated.

BYOB. 21+. Dockside — we do not get underway.
