Trident Technical College Apprenticeship Spotlight: Tonda Westbury, Chief Deputy Clerk of Court, Finance, Dorchester County Government
“Make the investment in yourself; it is so worth it! I now have an associate degree paid for by Dorchester County and am able to give that investment back to the organization. It’s a benefit for me personally and for my employer.”

Tonight our LYS Village toured the Trident Technical College SC Aeronautical Training Center and found out about great opportunities for careers in engineering and computer science!!!
The Lowcountry Youth Services fam took a tour of the Trident Technical College Aeronautical Training Center! It was a great evening exposing our members and their families to the opportunities that exist right here in our community!
Giving Thanks
Between the night classes I was taking at Trident Technical College I would kill time at Best Buy and look and hold all the Canon lenses and cameras I dreamed of using some day.
Well with a lot of sacrifices, peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sticking to my goals I was able to buy my dream camera.
After getting the opportunity to use professional L glass I knew my next goals and switching from my kit lens.
Gear does matter especially being a freelancer I never know if I’m shooting a wedding, birthday, social event, protest, or anything in between. And having the right tool for the job has been a huge benefit.
Thanks to the community here in Charleston that have shared my work and hired me and huge thanks to Ron Inabinett for letting to talk your head off about gear and helping me get the gear I need to capture moments in time.
P.S. still looking for a good 16-35mm f2.8 to complete the kit.

During the summer of 2021, I was chosen to paint a mural for the SC Aeronautical Training Center at Trident Technical College in North Charleston, SC. This location is a training hub for Boeing, Volvo, Bosch, as well as other major corporations in the aeronautical and robotics industries.
After spending an afternoon exploring the center and taking a lot of photographs, I went home and created a design that they loved! The actual 15’x 19’ mural took 11 days to paint. I was able to freehand paint the entire mural… no transfers and no projectors… just my eyes and hands! For 3 of those days, I brought in a Co-pilot, my friend Carolyn. Carolyn would take photos from the floor at a distance and text them to me, while I was on the scaffold. This allowed me to see from another vantage point and make sure that my perspective was spot on. Carolyn was also able to join in the fun of painting by my side and I loved having her! Besides constructing all my scaffolding, my husband even joined in the “fun”, helping me paint the final protective coating over the entire mural.
All in all, it was an amazing opportunity and one that goes down as a major highlight in my artistic career!
