Major progress today, the first proof of concept HO table is up! We’ll be tweaking this design a bit more over the next few weeks.

A lot of heavy lifting was done today and we’re happy to see that our club members storage lockers are back in place!

Are we in an episode of “The Joy of Painting”?

Several of our members channeled there inner Bob Ross last night and worked on repainting the walls of the O Scale room (fortunately there weren’t any happy little accidents, haha). While there’s still more work to be done we’re all glad to see the ball rolling.

Our next stop on our return journey to Charleston was the Grand Strand Model Railroad Club located in Myrtle Beach, SC.

This was a special day for them as they were celebrating their 40 year anniversary, well done guys!

It was great seeing all the layouts of different scales, we’re hopeful to pull much inspiration from them. The camaraderie between ourselves and their members was fantastic.

If you are visiting or living in the Myrtle Beach area then we highly recommend you check them out!

Over the weekend some of our members decided to head up to both Myrtle Beach and Wilmington on a research trip to get some ideas for the new layouts.

The first stop was the Wilmington Railroad Museum, more affectionately seen as the dedicated history center of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.

A lot of inspiration was pulled from this visit, whether it was the historical artifacts and pictures to the large Ho scale model railroad depicting Wilmington and eastern North Carolina. We can’t wait to use what was learned here in our upcoming layout designs.

Has anyone spotted any big trains rolling through town recently?
While we work on rebuilding our layouts, the real trains will have to keep us entertained! A few of our members were lucky enough to catch this special move on its way to Washington, D.C., for the July 4th celebrations.
This is the CSX Office Car Special, making its journey north from Waycross, Georgia. Thanks to our members for sharing this great catch!

Another model railroad club that’s in jeopardy, this year has definitely not been the best for our community. Please go support them if you can.
