Pattison’s Academy improves the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities. Pattison’s was started through the collaboration of four founders – one a physical therapist, one an occupational therapist, one an educator, and one the parent of a child with multiple, complex disabilities.
They envisioned an organization that would be able to address both the educational and therapeutic needs of this child and others with similar challenges. After founding our summer camp in 2005, Pattison’s has grown to incorporate the following
programs: Pattison's DREAM Academy's Summer Camp program, Family Support Services, and a Private Pediatric Therapy Practice.
Operating as usual
Meet Mrs. Mariah! Mrs. Mariah started at Pattison's Academy in August 2021! 7 months going strong! She absolutely loves having the opportunity to work together as a team to watch our students grow and increase their independence! In her free time, she coaches an adapted gymnastics program at Tapio Gymnastics in Mt Pleasant. She enjoys hiking, traveling to waterfalls, cooking new recipes with her husband and working out! Mrs. Mariah shares, “ I am so grateful to work as a speech-language pathologist and be a part of a growing field while working with other professionals to help make inclusion, acceptance and strength-based approaches part of our students' every day experience!”
(And we are so very grateful to have her as a part of the Pattison’s Family💕)

Eric started at Pattison’s Academy when he was 16 years old. During his time there as a student, Eric gained confidence, learned new skills and discovered his voice. As a nonverbal student, Eric closed out his school career by using a speech device to deliver a commencement speech at his 2019 graduation ceremony, a moment that Eric and our family will never forget. Pattison’s helped us discover abilities and shared an immense amount of joy that we will cherish forever.❤️

Pattison’s Academy was launched in September 2005 by four women — a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, an educator, and the mother of a child with disabilities — with a mission to improve the quality of life for children with severe disabilities across our Charleston community. The premise was simple, yet powerful: Through an array of services including education, therapy, and early intervention, families and professionals would work together to maximize the potential of children with a range of physical and cognitive challenges. The promise of this organization, particularly its ability to effectively serve children with multiple, complex disabilities, was enormous.
From the humble beginnings of a summer camp that started in 2006, serving 14 children, Pattison’s has grown into a multi-faceted service organization that serves over 125 children each year with quality programming delivered throughout Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Thanks to our partnership with the Charleston County School District, we today operate the only K-12 public charter school in South Carolina that serves exclusively children with severe disabilities.
At Midland Park Primary, we will develop a love of learning in a nurturing and respectful community in preparation for life-long achievement.
