This week, EveryChild NOW honored Education Alliance President and CEO Dr. Amelia Courts as a Champion of Education for Children in West Virginia at its Annual luncheon in Charleston.
The recognition celebrates her commitment to expanding student opportunities through her collaborative approach and her leadership of Education Alliance’s work. Last year, Alliance partnerships served more than 14,000 students and supported 139 new business partnerships for West Virginia schools. Behind those numbers are staff, board members, educators, business and community partners, and volunteers working together to help students build brighter futures. Applications are now open for EmpowerED Teacher Mini-Grants!

The Education Alliance, in partnership with The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and the Augusta Family Foundation, is helping teachers bring innovative ideas to life in their classrooms.

This year, up to 20 teachers will receive $3,000 mini-grants to support creative projects that strengthen student learning, engagement and success.

Last week, Wheeling Park High School kicked off its 50th anniversary celebration with the first event in its “50 Careers for 50 Years” Speaker Series. The Education Alliance’s Regional Partnership Coordinator, based in Wheeling, worked with the school and Appalachian Power to organize the opening business panel presentation. Students heard from an AEP lineman, a generation supervisor, an external affairs manager and a Wheeling Park graduate serving as an intern, four perspectives on the range of careers within one company. Together, the school, industry, and Alliance partners turned a celebration of the school’s past into an opportunity for students to explore careers firsthand and imagine where their own paths might lead. This week our Vice President Sally Noakes Barton represented the Education Alliance at the annual WV Economic Development conference at Snowshoe, where she had many opportunities to connect with business and community leaders from across the state. She was especially excited to see our 2025 School-Business Partnership of the Year (Pocahontas County Schools and Nature’s Mountain Classroom) Nature’s Mountain Classroomfeatured in the conference program as a great example of how opportunities in the Snowshoe region are preparing students for careers right in their own community. 🍎 100+ Students Step Into Classrooms and Toward Teaching Careers!

Our 2026–27 AmeriCorps Grow Your Own members are getting ready for a new school year! This week, members participated in in-person trainings in Jefferson, Putnam, and Wayne counties as they prepare to gain hands-on experience in classrooms across West Virginia.

With more than 100 students participating statewide, we’re excited to see these future educators step into classrooms, gain valuable experience, and explore a future in teaching. 🍎📚

Did you know our 4T program happens in Mississippi too?

Congratulations to the 11 seniors from New Albany and Union County High Schools who made history as the inaugural graduating class of Toyota Mississippi's 4T Academy! 🎓🎉

Made possible through a $2 million investment from Toyota, the program bridges classroom learning and hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing. Students developed valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and collaboration while working alongside industry professionals and gaining real-world experience on the production floor.

Based at the New Albany School District's Center for Innovation, the 4T Academy is helping prepare the next generation of skilled professionals through practical training, technology, and career-focused learning.

With conditional full-time job offers already in hand, these graduates are stepping confidently into the future. Congratulations to this trailblazing class and best wishes on the exciting journey ahead! 🚀
