One of our goals this year is the give back.

Thanks to Parent Advocate Asia Harris, the Faculty & Staff of West Ashley High School, and the Charleston Basket Brigades we were able to prepare meals for 50 local families to enjoy on Thanksgiving!!

From the West Ashley Family to yours — Wishing you and your family a day to remember - one filled with laughter and joy, great conversation, along with grateful hearts and a renewed appreciation for all that life has to offer.

Special thanks to Ms. Schuler’s students for helping put the baskets together.

The last day before any break is always a time of excitement (as we look forward to a few days off) and celebration.

Classes kicked off Fall Break in a number of ways this year — Ms. Sandifer’s Biology class decorated cookies; Ms. Bayne’s Geometry class participated in Friendsgiving; Ms. Ringdahl’s Marketing class learned about the history of Thanksgiving and how companies use the holiday as a marketing tactic to strengthen brand loyalty and increase sales.

However you choose to celebrate we hope everyone has a great Fall Break!!

One year ago next week, the West Ashley Football Family lost Mikell McKelvey, a sophomore running back and linebacker.

At the last home game of the season, the football team presented his mother, Asha McKelvey, with 21 white roses in honor of his football number followed by Coach Kiefer, who presented her with a West Ashley Football helmet bearing the letters MM in his memory.

#21 will always be in our hearts and in our memories.

For Motivation Monday we would like to highlight our mental health awareness club, Mending Mindsets!

At their most recent meeting, they invited guest speaker Katie Brown to speak about positive self talk. She went over the importance of reversing negative thoughts and turning them into positive ones.

At the end of the meeting she handed out stress balls and gave out papers to remind members to speak kindly to themselves!

Students in Ms. Sangster’s 3D Design class carved pumpkins yesterday after learning the history of jack-o-lanterns.

Fun fact: The jack-o-lantern tradition started in England where they originally carved them out of large beets instead of pumpkins.

After they began to emigrate to America, it was discovered that pumpkins, a fruit native to the continent, made for a better carving surface.
