CofC Opera promotes, educates, and entertains audiences at the College of Charleston. In the Spring term, a full mainstage production is presented.
College of Charleston Opera presents award-winning student singers in several theatrical productions throughout the year. In the Fall semester, evenings of operatic and musical theatre scenes are presented; these scenes help our singers grow in stagecraft experience. The CofC Opera students also create a Children's Opera based on popular operatic tunes. This performance is toured throughout local

Senior vocal performance major, Lauren Funkhouser, is organizing a “welcome back” concert to take place on Friday, September 20th at 7pm in the Simons Recital Hall! The goal of this concert is to fundraise for CofC Opera so we hope to see many of you in attendance!! 🤩🤩
🎵Announcing... Auditions for CofC Opera’s 2024 to 2025 Season!
🎵 All students are invited to audition for our scenes program Caught in the Act, our main stage production of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and Giordano's Il Re, and our children's opera Goldi B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears.
🎵 Mark your calendar for auditions on Tuesday, September 3rd from 4 to 9 PM in the Sottile Theater. You will be asked to perform a song or aria in Italian. Information regarding sign-ups and more to come!

DROPPED: 2024-2025 Mainstage opera announcement‼️
It’s the moment we have all been waiting for… Last week, our directorial team revealed the choice for next year’s mainstage opera production. We will be performing two one-act operas in Italian:
- Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice, a baroque interpretation of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus. 💀
- Giordano’s Il Re, a 20th-Century romantic comedy that takes place in a palace. 👑
We hope you are as excited as we are to put these shows on the stage‼️

We have had the most amazing two days learning so much from James Smidt, the world-renowned voice teacher and namesake of the iconic Haus of Shmizzay.
