A timeless fairytale of darkness, light and finding one’s way in the world, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) opera explores the search for truth and reason, love and enlightenment. This fully staged comedy/romance is presented by College of Charleston Department of Music, College of Charleston Theatre and Dance and the Charleston Symphony.
Director of College of Charleston Opera, Sandy DeAthos-Meers, says, “This collaboration among Charleston’s arts powerhouses showcases a variety of talent for audiences while providing a unique, professional experience for our students."

This looks like a great community for passionate, aspiring singers and performers, and I wanted to share with all of you that the Giulio Gari Foundation will be hosting another live streamed show as a part of their Salon Series which can be found on their page. This amazing series is a great way to connect with the opera community, as it is a collection of fantastic live-streamed events featuring the talent of special guests, who share their personal experiences, and discuss and celebrate the world of opera. Their next upcoming event in the series will showcase the immense talent of opera singer and tenor Errin Brooks, who has an impressive resume of performances, and is looking forward to performing at the Met soon, along with creating a few virtual projects. This show will air on July 21st at 7pm EST through Giulio Gari’s page. I hope all of you get a chance to tune in and stream Brooks’s premiere episode on the Giulio Gari Foundation’s Facebook live!
An unforgettable weekend of ARTS UNDER THE OAKS:
"Many under the wind-rumbling tent evidenced solid, stirring professional potential. More heartening still was this rare moment of arts ascendant as a new generation were granted a hard-won chance to perform. I venture to guess those aspiring performers will long remember the magic of the weekend when they helped ensure the arts prevail against daunting odds."

Another peek of opera rehearsal in preparation for “Le Nozze di Figaro,” April 10-11 at !
Want to hear College of Charleston Opera rehearse today? Drop by the Cistern Yard from 4-6pm!
Love seeing young opera singers perform; they really are the next generation that will carry on this beautiful art form. I also appreciate the safety measures the school is taking to combat COVID-19. I have been in quarantine for over a year, and I miss hearing live, in-person music performances so much. I have been able to attend virtual opera performances through Facebook Live, though, and they have been amazing. The Salon Series that I have been watching are on the Giulio Gari Foundation’s page, and the next one is on March 31st at 7pm EST and features decorated performer Steven LaBrie. LaBrie is best known for playing Marcello in La Boheme! If you’d like to have a safe, fun night of opera, join me on Facebook Live to watch him perform!
The College of Charleston School of the Arts Festival: Arts under the Oaks will offer an entertaining day of performances by the College of Charleston Department of Music alongside College of Charleston Theatre and Dance.
