This fully staged comedy/romance is presented by College of Charleston Department of Music, College of Charleston Theatre and Dance and the Charleston Symphony.

This looks like a great community for passionate, aspiring singers and performers, and I wanted to share with all of you that the Giulio Gari Foundation will be hosting another live streamed show as a part of their Salon Series which can be found on their page. This amazing series is a great way to connect with the opera community, as it is a collection of fantastic live-streamed events featuring the talent of special guests, who share their personal experiences, and discuss and celebrate the world of opera. Their next upcoming event in the series will showcase the immense talent of opera singer and tenor Errin Brooks, who has an impressive resume of performances, and is looking forward to performing at the Met soon, along with creating a few virtual projects. This show will air on July 21st at 7pm EST through Giulio Gari’s page. I hope all of you get a chance to tune in and stream Brooks’s premiere episode on the Giulio Gari Foundation’s Facebook live!
An unforgettable weekend of ARTS UNDER THE OAKS:

"Many under the wind-rumbling tent evidenced solid, stirring professional potential. More heartening still was this rare moment of arts ascendant as a new generation were granted a hard-won chance to perform. I venture to guess those aspiring performers will long remember the magic of the weekend when they helped ensure the arts prevail against daunting odds."

Another peek of opera rehearsal in preparation for “Le Nozze di Figaro,” April 10-11 at !
Want to hear College of Charleston Opera rehearse today? Drop by the Cistern Yard from 4-6pm!
Love seeing young opera singers perform; they really are the next generation that will carry on this beautiful art form. I also appreciate the safety measures the school is taking to combat COVID-19. I have been in quarantine for over a year, and I miss hearing live, in-person music performances so much. I have been able to attend virtual opera performances through Facebook Live, though, and they have been amazing. The Salon Series that I have been watching are on the Giulio Gari Foundation’s page, and the next one is on March 31st at 7pm EST and features decorated performer Steven LaBrie. LaBrie is best known for playing Marcello in La Boheme! If you’d like to have a safe, fun night of opera, join me on Facebook Live to watch him perform!
The College of Charleston School of the Arts Festival: Arts under the Oaks will offer an entertaining day of performances by the College of Charleston Department of Music alongside College of Charleston Theatre and Dance. The event will take place on April 10 & 11, IN PERSON at the College's Stono Preserve. A livestream option will be available, as well.

Arts under the Oaks will feature mainstage performances & sideshow pop-up events throughout the day. Mainstage shows will include:

Unbeatable: A Musical Theatre Showcase

Finding Place: A Dance Concert

Le Nozze di Figaro: College of Charleston Opera

CofC Opera is designed to promote, educate, and entertain audiences interested in Opera at the CofC.

College of Charleston Opera presents award-winning student singers in several theatrical productions throughout the year. In the Fall semester, evenings of operatic and musical theatre scenes are presented; these scenes help our singers grow in stagecraft experience. In the Spring term, a full mainstage production is presented. The CofC Opera students also create a Children's Opera based on popula

We love those first couple of weeks of Opera Workshop class when the rehearsals haven’t quite started yet. We’ve dedicated the time getting to know each other’s personalities but also - voices! Creating a safe environment for the art of singing is our top priority. Making up improvised scenes with our fun and supportive group of singers has been a crowd favorite AND (here’s a big secret) it helps in letting go of that terrifying stage fright. Safe to say everybody’s feeling more and more ready for the upcoming auditions! Remember, auditions for our 22/23 season’s productions are open to all CofC students and will take place on Sep 6 at the Sottile Theatre. More info in our previous post!

Congratulations to our wonderful pianist Misha Pekar! We continue to be proud of all of your accomplishments and will miss you when you graduate!

Misha Pekar, a double major in Arts Management and Music, has been selected as the recipient of the Julie Jett Arts Management Citizenship Award, established in 2004 in honor of an alumna of our program who tragically passed away shortly after graduation in 2003. The award recognizes one student each year who embodies Julie's characteristics: a student who has made significant contributions to the College and the community through the field of arts management.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Misha served as the Development Intern for Spoleto Festival USA, the Special Events Chairperson for the College Of Charleston Student Alumni Associates, and Co-music director for the CofC Children's Opera. He has received the Reba Kinne Huge Award, the Edwin Davis Peacock Award for Excellence in Piano, and the College of Charleston Department of Music Alumni Award. After graduation, he plans to work and study as a musician while preparing for graduate study and the Fulbright program.
