CofC Opera is designed to promote, educate, and entertain audiences interested in Opera at the College of Charleston. College of Charleston Opera presents award-winning student singers in several theatrical productions throughout the year.
In the Fall semester, evenings of operatic and musical theatre scenes are presented; these scenes help our singers grow in stagecraft experience. In the Spring term, a full mainstage production is presented. The CofC Opera students also create a Children's Opera based on popular operatic tunes. This performance is toured throughout local elementary schools to bring music to children. Saundra Death

Skating into the weekend like 🛹 🤩
We are thrilled for this collaboration with Charleston Symphony !! Only a couple weeks away!
A timeless fairytale of darkness, light, and finding one’s way in the world, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) opera explores the search for truth and reason, love and enlightenment. The production is a collaboration among the College of Charleston’s Department of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance, as well as the Charleston Symphony 🎭
Directed by Theatre Associate Professor Evan Parry, the production is recommended for all ages. Parry describes the opera: “Through comedy and romance, the blend of the human and the supernatural brings the audience into a journey of trials and tribulations on the path toward a deeper understanding of true love and happiness.”
Performances of The Magic Flute will take place at the Sottile Theatre on February 25 at 7:30 p.m. and February 27 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the George Street Box Office online, by emailing [email protected], calling (843) 953-4726 or in person.

We are looking forward to having Mr. Robinson with us for a concert and Masterclass! ⭐️⭐️
Fresh off his recent performance in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of “The Magic Flute,” Morris Robinson, '91, is excited to return to Charleston for Masterworks of Voice and Drama on Thursday, February 3.
In addition, Robinson will work directly with the College of Charleston’s voice students in a masterclass as the students prepare for their production of “The Magic Flute,” — a collaboration between the College’s Department of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance, as well as the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Robinson’s student interaction is timely as he recently finished singing for a new adaptation of “The Magic Flute” for cinema, set to be released at the end of 2022 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by Tobis Film.

A coupla Queens with the real tea
GIVING TUESDAY is here!
College of Charleston Opera is excited about our upcoming production of Mozart's 'Die Zauberflöte' in the Sottile Theatre in February 2022. Both the faculty and students are thrilled to be performing again after the trials of producing opera during a pandemic. We were lucky enough to have thrived and provide our students a performance opportunity during this time with a successful outdoor venture, the SOTA Festival, at the Stono Preserve last April where CofC Opera performed 'Le Nozze di Figaro' for a live audience. We want to continue to provide meaningful performance opportunities for our students to hone their craft and grow the significance our program. Your donation on Giving Tuesday ensures a bright future for our student-centric training, productions and performances.
