Tonight at 6:30 at Terrace Theater, followed by a discussion with professors Chad Gibbs and Ted Rosengarten. Is the film "a hollow, self-aggrandizing art-film exercise set in Auschwitz during the Holocaust(NY Times)" or does the film "pull the banality of evil into pin-sharp focus(The Guardian)"?
It was so exciting seeing so many Jewish Studies students at Chanukah in the Square this past Sunday!
We had so much much eating latkes and sufganiyot and of course, lighting the menorah to celebrate the fourth night of Chanukah with our entire community!
We canโt wait to do it all again next year ๐

Our program has received many questions about the screening of the documentary Israelism, which was scheduled to be shown at the College of Charleston on 11/15. Israelism raises hard questions about the role of Israel in the American Jewish community, and takes a clear stance on Israel's policies and actions in the West Bank. We had scheduled it months ago, before the War in Gaza. We recognize now is not a good time to show it, and we have therefore postponed the screening indefinitely. Professors may choose to show this documentary to students in courses next semester that deal directly with the questions it raises, alongside other documentaries that look at Israel from other perspectives. But at this point we are not planning a public screening.
Join us tonight in Arnold Hall at 6:00 PM for a showing of the documentary film Sabotage in cooperation with the Charleston Jewish Film Fest.
