It’s true: Good design is invisible. AI design is not.

The goal isn’t to have AI replace the parts of you that actually make you a professional designer. You still need to bring your eye, your intention, your relationships, and your years of getting it right (and sometimes wrong) so you can build real spaces. Let AI cobble something together, and your clients will lose the value a designer brings to the table.

What you should use AI for is all of that background stuff that can help you move faster (hello organization) and communicate better.

Hot take: I will not let AI generate my floor plans.

That’s something that a designer’s trained eye is brought in to fix. We do it well because we’re human…we move through the world, very aware of how scale and placement affect how people move through and live in their home. AI can’t do that.

Now…extracting info off my plans to build schedules and takeoffs faster? That’s a different story. I’ll take all the AI help I can get there, and it’s one of the things I’ve taught inside The AI Social Club.
