Bio

“Turn Up & Dance” is a dance team that provides underprivileged students with a positive, safe, clean and fun environment where they are given opportunities and platforms to grow and excel not only in their dance education but also in day to day life as well. Offering the highest level of dance training is on the top of our list of priorities! All of our dance instructors are highly trained and experience professionals who love working with kids. Our goal is to nurture each student’s unique gifts, creativity and talents through the art of rhythm, movement and expression. We also strive to maintain a positive environment in which our students can have support in reaching their fullest potentials as individuals and collectively as a team. Dance classes are provided to our youth year round, twice a week (Mondays & Wednesdays) @ The Westchester Park house of James Island (1443 Secessionville Rd, Charleston, SC 29412).

Dance is the objective but teaching life skills is our passion. Not only are our students getting skilled dance training but also are learning how to become a team player and leader. Turn Up & Dance offers a place where our students can express themselves freely without judgment. Mentors are on hand to lend a shoulder to lean on and positive words of encouragement to our students if in case they need a pep talk or just someone to listen to their problems, concerns and aspirations. We also encourage and teach self love, self respect, respect for others and individuals in authority. Our team also consist of extraordinary group of mentors who work with our students and provide influential tools our students can use on a day to basis such as: proper hygiene care, learning how to make/save money, learning how to become an entrepreneur, finding our what their purpose in life is, confidence building, stage showmanship, and table etiquette to name a few. To help build teamwork and unity, sisterhood and brotherhood is also taught and implemented in our classes as well. The children are our future it’s important that they learn how to work with each other at a young age!

Opportunities:

Our students are provided with several opportunities to enhance their dance and life skills. Growth comes with experience so therefor it’s imperative for Tur up and dance to provide our students with several opportunities for our students to flourish. Performing live on a international basis is one of the many opportunities our little dancers can take advantage of. Not only will they prepare and showcase their talents for their dance recitals but will also perform at several different festivals and events as well. Other opportunities such as team building, trips to various inspiring/empowering venues and working for a charitable cause are available for our students to take advantage of.
