Charleston Bridge Club players had a ball today playing bridge at the Quarrier Diner. Anna made it a special experience for club members as 28 of us met for a delicious lunch, played bridge and stayed for drinks and yes, more good food. The bridge was competitive and the conversation was good. Be sure to not miss out on this delightful experience the next time we play there.

Zinc or Bridge For A Cold?

Marian Cleeves Diamond, a neuroscientist at the University of California, Berkeley’s research shows that playing bridge boosts one’s immune system. There is more to be studied, but a comparison of before and after blood samples showed an increase in white blood cell count for 66% of the study’s subjects. Bridge is not only good for you; it’s fun.

Students Scores Increase Dramatically After Learning To Play BRIDGE
Dr. Christopher Shaw of Carlinville, IL researched the impact learning to play bridge would have on elementary students. The starting point was their performance on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills on five core subjects. He chose fifth grade students who were similar in their abilities and divided them into six groups. One group was taught how to play bridge. The scores of the bridge playing group showed a dramatic increase in all five core groups, with Science showing an astounding 39.11% increase. Play bridge with your parents and your children. Keep yours and your parent’s brains sharp; and give your child all the benefits of playing bridge.

PLAY BRIDGE!

Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed,
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear, and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world’s out there,
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come round again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go - and go you must -
You, yourself, will make more dust.
