Work can be fun
This is another awesome component of our new featured exhibit, Art of the Abyss!

Our friends at Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC loaned the Museum one of their Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV), so people would be able to see some of the technologies used to explore up to 1000 ft.

Partnerships such as this broadened people's exposure to the diving and exploring the underwater world. Thank you!

Palmetto Subsea Inspections uses ROVs from a variety of manufacturers for troubleshooting and training and works closely with the International Diving Institute International Diving Institute, LLC. Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC chose SEAMOR’s Steelhead as their flagship ROV due to its superior quality and reliability in day-to-day operations.

Thanks to Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC for this photo! Find out more about their journey from Micron to Multibeam at the link below:

We chat with Jesse Lang of Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC about ROVs, subsea inspection and why they upgraded from the Micron Sonar to the Gemini 720im:

We have teams ready and equipped to support everything from contaminated water to ROV surveying.

With our observation class ROVs we are able to provide our clients with accurate and real time information. This is not just for information about submerged targets, but can also be used for diver support.

Operating as usual

Today's tasks. Replace a servo in a VideoRay Pro 4, and replace the guts in two Outland Technology lights.

Great day to be out testing our SEAMOR Marine setups for Project Pterois.

08/03/2023

Who is coming with us? We will be providing Classic Diving LLC with on-site and streaming video support. This also means people will get to fly our SEAMOR Marine Mako and Steelhead.

Got the Tritech International Ltd. sonars added to the SEAMOR Marine Mako. Next week we will be putting it in the water to see how it flys with our lionfish frame attachment.

07/17/2023

Thanks to SEAMOR Marine project pterois aka the lionfish hunter is back on track. Over the next few months we will be designing and testing different ways to catch these invasive, but delicious fish. Follow along with us while we build and test crazy ideas. With the goal to help slow the migration of lionfish and add a new item to restaurant menus.

07/13/2023

You never know what you will end up with when everyone is braking down at a conference. There is a now a SEAMOR Marine Mako demo unit in our fleet.

07/12/2023

We will be hanging out with SEAMOR Marine for the next few days.

07/03/2023

We will be in the booth with SEAMOR Marine this year. Hope to see you there.

Just change it to comm boxes or video cables

We know dive cameras and lights get bumped around. So we designed this little bumper for a customer. Hopefully they start using them on their other cameras before case integrity is questionable.

On our way to a new client

About 60 piles on an old Navy peir we inspected earlier this week. Waterline to mudline was 30fsw on an out going tide. The SEAMOR Marine Steelhead made sure a diver didn't have to worry about a barotrauma from that many bounce dives in less than 8 hours.

Added a desktop CNC to the tool inventory. So I decided to make a new clock for the office.

The joys of figuring out a logic schematic, on a high voltage system.

Was not expecting to see a company testing an electric hydrofoil when leaving work yesterday. So we stayed late, and flew the drone for them.

08/30/2022

Think I figured out why this custom light and camera system wasn't working. This was the topside end.

Working fast to finish this hull inspection before it gets hots.

We will be streaming live video and sonar feeds tomorrow on Twitch.

Our ROV does not fit the rules to participate this year, but we will find a way to help out. Carolina Dive Locker is there any room left on the boat?

George Anthony Diaz got the splice done before I got the motor mounts finalized.

Photos from Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC's post 07/05/2022

Here is the weekend update. Front gate designed and printed using flexible TPU. Back thruster guard alignment bushing printed. George is redoing the tether splice to add couple extra connections for extra thruster and new camera. Guess I need to get the motor mount done ASAP.

Who, what, when, where are important questions, but at PSI we focus on the how, and why not. This all started from one conversation about an invasive fish. So here is the beginning of day one as we try to figure out; How to selectively catch a invasive fish with a 1/4hp motor underwater?

Photos from Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC's post 06/29/2022

A customer asked if we could create a bumper to protect their new sonar for a SEAMOR Marine Steelhead. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to send us the sonar to take measurements from. That's where the team from Tritech International Ltd. saved the day by having 3d models available on their website. Cannot wait to hear back from the customer about fit, and hoping it doesn't impact the sonar beams.

Not the first place you think of when flying an ROV.

This is a long shot. A customer is unable to login to their control laptop for a videoray pro 4. Do the computers leave videoray with a standard PIN?

We are offering our first ADCI approved ROV course August 1st!

06/16/2022

I think we need to finish a few projects soon

06/14/2022

We had some fun keeping divers safe last week.

06/09/2022

It has been a strange year for us, but it is official. We are members of ADCI! When we get off the barge, we will post more information about our training schedule. That's right, an official ADCI ROV Cert Card.

We have a visitor on today's job. Meet Gary the gar.

While it sounds like a lot. It is really just a lot of time with the multimeter to verify continuity. We will finish up next week when we get back from another job.

I get to upgrade our Deep Ocean Engineering, Inc. Phantom with an Arctic Rays Mako. While George is sitting on the barge with the divers.

Another video cable repaired for a local dive company. A turn around time of less than 24 hours, and still gives the scotchcast time to cure. We didn't even make them take it off the umbilical this time.

Photos from Palmetto Subsea Inspections, LLC's post 05/03/2022

Hard bends will wear out a tether quickly. So I designed and printed a custom guide that makes sure the the tether stays outside of the minimum bend radius. Currently on the printer is a variety of mounting bracket.

The technology I dreamed about at their age, is the reality they are familiar with. I cannot wait to hear their questions.

What do you do when your ROV needs a tool that doesn't exist yet? Jesse creates it using his 3D printer! Join us tonight to talk with this real life underwater Macgyver!

Came in early this morning to say bye to our neighbor. This ship and crew have been stuck in port next to us for over 2 years because of COVID and weather.
