Important things are happening at Elon now. Last Thursday, non-tenure track faculty took a stand after years of concern to form a union. More details in this beautiful article here: http://www.elonnewsnetwork.com/article/2018/11/elon-faculty-rally-for-support-to-form-a-union Courageous Alumni are opting to withhold donations to this institution that we deeply care for in a move to encourage Elon to continue to grow and support the community in necessary ways. If you would like to sign this letter of support you can do so here and please share with other alumni: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfBHKp0ipaAKnxjKmE3P71weFxkxHaIK3PjC2o1yjj1q0jkAw/viewform To see how this directly affects your department and dear friends who were once professors - scroll briefly through your department directory and see how many professors are "assistant or adjunct."

Elon University

A message from President Connie Ledoux Book

A Responsibility to Do More:

Dear members of the Elon community,

With a heavy heart, I write today about the events we are witnessing across America and the truth of the continued experience of our Black friends and colleagues. While my full understanding of what this feels like for the members of our Black community is limited, I share in grief, anger and sorrow with you. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I am writing this morning to the majority of the Elon community that is White. The pictures and the messages we are seeing and reading are not new, in fact we have been in this moment before. As educators, we deeply believe that education is vital to creating opportunity for all. Unfortunately, the repeated racism that Black members of our community face is proof that the systems we have built are not yet adequate. We have substantial work to be done and that will require the collective efforts of all of us.

When I was in college in the early 1980s, universities had just begun bystander training. One of the practices taught was to identify a bystander in the crowd, make eye contact and ask for help. “You in the green shirt, please help me!” Research has shown that moment can move a bystander to action. During a phone call yesterday with a college friend, she reminded me of that training.

We are all wearing green shirts today. Harness the emotions you are feeling and join me in committing to renew and expand our efforts. We know we can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. We must seek new solutions, new understanding, and open ourselves up to what we don’t know and what we don’t understand. Our Black colleagues need us to insist on change now.

Naturally our next question is, “How?” Here are two things I ask you to commit to doing. First, reach out to your Black friends and colleagues and check in. Let them know you care and appreciate them and wish for them the fullness of an equitable life. Let them know you will personally commit to antiracist work here at Elon and in the broader world. And then, check-in with your White friends, colleagues, and family and ask them to join you in making the same commitment to take action against racism.

Second, join the community in reading and discussing this fall’s common reading selection, Jennifer Eberhardt’s Biased: Uncovering the Hidden Prejudice That Shapes What We See, Think, and Do. Dr. Eberhardt challenges us to recognize how perceptions of race shape our every interaction and then do something about it. Her book and her message could not be more timely for the work ahead.

In the coming weeks, I personally commit to deepening my efforts, seeking new knowledge through reading and research to aid in more fully understanding the experience of the Black community and reviewing our university policies and practices. Members of the university’s senior staff join me in that effort and I ask that each of you do the same so that we can ensure that the privileges we enjoy are truly and fully available to all.

Connie Book

It's time for 2019 Elon Football

Football season is almost here and you do not miss your chance to be in Rhodes Stadium this fall. Below are the wonderful reasons and advantages to join us this season.

The Elon Phoenix Team
Coming off back-to-back NCAA playoff runs and starting the Head Coach Tony Trisciani era, Elon is poised to have the best year in program history. With All-Conference Quarterback Davis Cheek returning and Rookie of the Year Jaylan Thomas in the backfield, the offense is sure to put points on the scoreboard while the defense, led by Cornerback Greg Liggs, will continue to swarm opponents. Three Top 25 teams come to Rhodes Stadium this year including Pre-Season #2 James Madison with former Elon Head Coach Curt Cignetti and #6 Maine.

Pageantry of Game Day

All our kick-off times are set for 2:00 this season that allows for some great lunchtime tailgating prior to the game. Elon Football offers the easiest parking and tailgate setup in the area. With no traffic and plenty of parking options within 300 yards of Rhodes Stadium, you will have the most amount of time to spend making memories on a fall Saturday. Start your tailgating with the Phoenix Walk 2.5 hours before kickoff. Join The Fire of the Carolinas Marching Band and the Elon Cheer and Dance teams as they march the team down Bank of American Drive and into Rhodes Stadium. Once you are in the gates, be sure to check out the new concessions offerings in 2019. They are sure to make every mouth water on game day. Try the new Pit Beef Sandwich, Crab Cakes and Sausage of the Game from locally-owned Giuseppi's. All season ticket holders receive a 15% discount at concessions stands the entire season. Be in the stands early, as The Phoenix take the field through the cloud of smoke and run out between the band.

There is no better place than a Saturday in the fall with Elon Football!Click here for more info

No Better Place To Be

There are three different Season Ticket options in Rhodes Stadium.
Zone 2 seats at midfield provides the best vantage point to see all the action. Home-style viewing without the fear of missing out on any of the explosive touchdowns and momentum swinging tackles.
Zone 3 provides our best value to have the same seats for every game on the West Side of the Rhodes Stadium with convenient access to the upgraded concessions.
Phoenix Hill is our newest season ticket option. Bring a blanket and the entire family and watch from the grass hill in the South End Zone near our Kids Zone featuring inflatables and more.

This season, be a part of the pageantry, tradition and excellence of Elon Football in your backyard!
