How do 1500 broccoli plugs make their way into 200 school gardens across SC this week? Teamwork is how!

🥦Broccoli plugs are shipped to the Clemson Extension TEACH Center at the Citadel Mall.
💚They are then sorted and bagged by Clemson Extension Horticulture & Tri-County Master Gardeners.
🚙Baskets are tagged for each school and driven to Columbia by our team.
🍀The plants and baskets are then distributed to the South Carolina 4-H Youth Development 4-H agents, who then deliver to the schools in each of their counties across the state.

Phew! We cannot wait for all our SC school gardens to plant their transplants this week 🥦

We love these full circle Farm to School moments 🧑🏽‍🌾 Students planted, grew, and harvested sweet potatoes in their school garden🍠🌱 And then the nutrition services staff prepared and cooked the potatoes and served them for school lunch! 🍽️🙌🏼 This is what it’s all about! Great work McKissick Academy of Science and Technology and SDPC Student Nutrition Services!

Two weeks left to register! The next School Gardening for SC Educators online course starts on September 14, 2026!

🌱Participants will have 5 weeks to complete the online course. The course is self-paced and includes everything you need to know about starting and maintaining a school garden.
🌱Participants will each receive grade-specific educational classroom kits.
🌱Educators will also receive 20 renewal credits from the South Carolina Department of Education.

It is officially time to count 🐝🦋🪰 The Great Southeast Pollinator Census starts TODAY!

🐝The census runs through the entire weekend (Sunday, Aug 23 & Monday, Aug 24 were added as makeup days for weather). It only takes 15 minutes and can be done in your own backyard! All the information you need is here- https://gsepc.org/

🌱 First Harvest! 🍠

Last year, we received a grant from Clemson Extension School & Community Gardening and South Carolina Farm to School to create our very own Lead Academy garden—and yesterday, our students got to experience our first harvest! 🎉

Students pulled lots of sweet potatoes from the soil, and we can’t wait to cook them up and share them with our students! 💚

A huge shoutout to our Health & Wellness teacher, Mrs. S., for the passion, creativity, and care she brings to our school garden. We’re so excited to see what grows next! 🌿
