💙 Happy National PTO/A Day! (9/26)💙 (Posting a day early for visibility & appreciation)
Dolly Parton once said, “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are an excellent leader.”
That is exactly the kind of leadership found within parent-teacher organizations. PTO/PTA volunteers may not always hold visible leadership roles, but their actions create lasting legacies within their schools—one fundraiser, one cookie, one dance party, and one WooHoo Cart at a time.
Today, I would like to recognize the incredible parents and caregivers who volunteer their time and talents to support our CCSD schools.
To my fellow Oakland Elementary PTO board members—thank you for saying “YES.” You were already balancing families, full- and part-time jobs, caregiving, sports teams, music lessons, and countless responsibilities, and yet when asked, you said "yes" and added PTO Board to an already full plate, because you knew the position would go unfilled. Much of your work happens quietly behind the scenes, without recognition, but you serve because you care. That is leadership. I am so proud to serve alongside such caring and selfless women. You all inspire me to dream, learn & become more.
To those who served on the Oakland PTA—and later PTO—before us, thank you for laying the foundation, creating beloved Oakland traditions, and strengthening our school community. Your actions created a legacy that continues to make a difference year after year.
I also want to recognize the amazing PTOs/PTAs throughout CCSD—especially our fellow West Ashley elementary parent-organization boards at Ashley River Creative Arts, Drayton Hall, Montessori Community School, Orange Grove Charter, Springfield, St. Andrew’s School of Math and Science, & Stono Park.
Thank you for working tirelessly—and sometimes thanklessly. Though we represent different schools and wear different colors, we share the same purpose. Your work matters, your time is appreciated, and our schools and West Ashley community are better because of your leadership. 💙
Please tag your CCSD PTO/A group and individuals who have served and show them some love!
With appreciation,
Katlyn Elderman, President, Oakland Elementary PTO
