College of Charleston's Nu Zeta Chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society recognizes academic excellence in the study of Hispanic language, literature and culture. Besides housing the national headquarters of Sigma Delta Pi, La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica/National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, the College of Charleston also has its own Nu Zeta Chapter that recognizes high-achieving students of Spanish and executes various activities throughout the academic year.

Estimados Estudiantes:
CofC's national award-winning, Nu Zeta Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, is now accepting applications for membership in preparation for our fall induction ceremony at 4:30 PM in Randolph Hall on November 15th, 2022. The completed application (see downloadable form at our chapter webpage: https://spanish.cofc.edu/student-opportunities-leadership/sigma-delta-pi.php) and supporting materials (electronic copy of your academic transcript downloaded from MyCharleston) must be submitted to Professor Hanahan via e-mail ([email protected]) by MIDNIGHT Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Applicants will be notified of status on November 4th.
The following are the requirements for membership for undergraduate students:
• Completion of at least three semesters of college course work.
• Completion of at least 18 semester hours of college-level Spanish or the equivalent, including at least three semester hours of a third-year literature, culture or Spanish for the professions (business, medical, etc.) course (i.e. 300-level or higher) at the College of Charleston.
• A grade average of B or better in all college-level Spanish courses completed.
• A cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better in all college courses completed.
• You MUST be present to be initiated. Initiation in absentia is not an option.
For graduate students: Those who have been unconditionally admitted to a degree-granting program may be elected to membership upon completion of two graduate courses in Spanish with an average which, if continued, will make them eligible for a graduate degree.
The induction of new members will be held on Tuesday, November 15th at 4:30 PM in Alumni Hall (Randolph Hall). Current members are strongly encouraged to attend in order to welcome our new members.
