When Mike Mallah, M.D., set off from Charleston on a humanitarian medical trip to Central Africa, he expected to spend two weeks in Cameroon supporting the work of renowned surgeon James Brown, M.D.
Hours later, stuck in New York at John F. Kennedy International Airport, and unable to cross the Atlantic due to unforeseen visa issues, Mallah had to think on the fly.

This summer, Shelby Cobb, a MUSC College of Health Professions student, traveled to Ghana to complete a global health project with Child Family Health International. Supported by a Center for Global Health Student & Trainee Travel Grant, the project allowed Shelby to complete occupational therapy work for patients in the region.

Global Health Travel Grant Presentations on Wednesday
You’re invited to attend a pair of global health travel grant presentations by McKay Meyer and Joseph Blackman, both of the College of Medicine. The presentations will take place at noon on Wednesday, November 1 in Room EL-119 of the library. Lunch will be provided to those who attend in person.

This month we were thrilled to welcome new MUSC international students during our annual orientation. We are excited about the year ahead and so happy to support their transition to life in Charleston.
HAPPENING TODAY: The MUSC Asian Student Association (MASA) is hosting a bake sale to support Maui fire relief from 11am - 3pm in the lobby of the James W. Colbert Education Center and Library on the Charleston campus.

We were pleased to host MUSC students today for the annual hurricane seminar. Led by Bryan Wood, MUSC emergency manager, the seminar helped educate students new to the area, as well as remind others, of the key considerations to make in preparing for and responding to a hurricane.
Many students received a free emergency kit, which provides life-saving supplies for three days.

Join us on August 23 for our annual MUSC Student Hurricane Preparedness Seminar at the Harper Student Wellness Center.
We will show students how to create hurricane supply kits, understand the hazards that a hurricane might bring to our area and show you how to prepare your home or apartment if a storm is headed our way.
Other topics will include:
- Making sure your pets have everything they need to get through the storm
- Making sure your important documents are protected
- Knowing your evacuation zone
- Knowing where to go to get the most accurate information
